"I take it you had a head at one point"

 

"Id have asked you to kill me if I went this long and never had one in the first place"

 

"You writing in the first place gave it away
Care to tell the story"

 

"Id rather not
but simply put I asked sister to end my suffering
that request became my curse"

 

I fly up to the top of the tallest mountain and start looking for entrances.


The shield appears around the child, and nothing disturbs the child throughout the night. Even bits of dust and dirt that attempt to land on the child can't get through.

 

They're as plentiful as the guards. Or, more specifically, there's one guard for each of the eight entrances.

You hear another dragon approaching from behind.

 

I pretend not to notice, flying toward one of the entrances.

 

The guard, of course, blocks your way.
"Unlike a shadow beast to be venturing before sunset." It says, voice a bit deep for comfort.

The sound gets progressively closer.

 

"I guess some of the beasts from the wild lands got through to here," I say casually, "Though, as you can see from my non-deformed appearance and actual intelligence, I'm above a Shadow Beast."

 

"No, the sword puts you above a Shadow Beast. The actual intelligence puts you above a mere Shadow. Of course, that's irrelevant. Considering I can't stop you if I tried, why do you come to Her Final Resting Place?"

 

"I've come in search of Ragnyon, and I was directed here. For all that it's worth, the crystal ball in her staff that she uses was gifted to her by me when I first found her." I say.

 

They look past you.
"Leave an offering and I will tell you what you seek."


The dragoness from earlier lands nearby.
"W-wait... how did you get that necklace?"

 

I turn around.

"Hm? The shield one?" I ask.

 

"Y-yes. I... wanted to know how you obtained it."

 

"It's just a simple magical charm. It's a self-regenerating mage crystal charged with a shield spell that only activates when in contact with a living being." I say.

 

She seems confused.
"If it's as simple as you say..."
"Drop the matter. Let the Shadow Beast do what we require in return for what he seeks." The guard says.
"Y-yes, sir." The dragoness says, hesitating before taking off and heading home.

 

I summon a black potion, it's bottle shaped like a thick crescent with a hole in it; it almost looks like it's half of something else.

"This good enough?" I ask, tossing and catching the potion idly.
