    3d6, actually. 2d6 for piercing damage from the actual bullet, and 1d6 for thunder damage.

    Hmm...
    Well.
    The first thing you do when you attack is trying to land a hit.
    You do this by rolling a d20 (dice with 20 sides) and add modifiers (depending on the way you attack).
    Every character in the game has something called AC. If the number you rolled with the d20 is higher then your opponent's AC, then you hit your attack.
    After hitting an attack, you roll for damage. This can verify depending on what weapon, spell or other items you're using.
    But you just roll a dice (usually given with each weapon) and add either DEX or STR modifiers (@Paradoxical correct me on this).

    Now, there are a few special things that can happen during an attack.
    1) You roll a natural 1. This means you don't add any modifiers and your attack misses automatically. (No need to roll for damage)
    2) You roll a natural 20. This means you still add modifiers and get to roll 2 dices for damage instead of a normal 1 (Unless you double wield, then you always roll 2 dices.)
    3) For some spells or actions you don't roll a dice to try and land a hit (surpassing AC). Those spells use something called 'saves'. The person you're attack needs to roll a save (can verify between all stats: DEX, STR, etc.). If your target's save is equal or higher then your spell DC, the spell misses. (Ask someone about the spell DC, I'm still learning about that bit.)
    4) Advantage/Disadvantage. When you're in an (dis)advantage you roll 2 d20. When you're at a disadvantage you choose the lowest number of the 2 and use this as you attack roll. With an advantage you take the highest roll of the 2.

    I hope this is about right.

    About #3, Magic Missile is a thing, and some moves still work even if the save is passed (such as dragon breath).

    From the fact that he had already made a to-hit roll, I gathered that SPYRO had tried to explain some things to him, but he was confused or SPYRO didn't do it well enough.

    Anyway @bluepenguin1002 Lin gave a good explanation, just ask if there's anything more that confuses you.

    The only thing I forgot is when your like try to grab someone. Both of you (player and opponent) would have to roll a STR save or something right? Athletics or acrobatic.

    Grapple and shove rules are kind of weird, and not of much use to an artificer anyway. It's basically a contest of athletics rolls, though the target can use acrobatics instead.
