Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"I'll try."
Crystal aims, adjusting his aim based on his last shot.

"Alright. Thanks."
I nod, exiting the shop.

 

The shakes cause him to miss.
"Loosen up a bit... somehow."

"Hey." They call. "Can I get a name for that order?"

 

"Uh, alright..."
Crystal mumbles before thinking, then just relaxing for a bit.
Although, it just looks like he's being completely still.

I stop.
"Thirteen."
I call back.

 

The shaking's reduced, but still a bit present.

"See you in two days, Thirteen." They respond.

 

Angela goes and sits back down, sipping her apple juice.

 

Nobody bothers her, until...

-15 minutes later-
"Hey, Aj. Status update, Katie decided it was a good idea to make a ten story slide end at a tower shield. She's just recovering in the ER." Alice says telepathically.


Katie, still a bit groggy from anesthetics, slowly comes to.
"She waking?"
"Yep. Good as new."
"You gonna stick with her for a while?"
"Long enough to figure out what the hell was going on."

Katie suddenly can see brighter lights and can smell lavender, being carted out to Angela.

"Hey, Angela. Katie's just fine, but she might be a little weary for a bit. The anesthetics didn't do much, so we had to use multiple kinds to keep her down for the surgery." Murel explains, pressing a button that reclines Katie to something closer to a sitting position.

 

"I heard." I respond.


"Ashl sasle flass..." Katie mumbles, looking around confused.

"K-Katie!" Angela says worriedly, getting up and hugging Katie.

 

"Just making sure. I stuck around in the OR and was waiting to tell you after she recovered."


Katie has a patient's robe over her clothes, the latter smelling cleaned. The ceiling has ornate designs on it, a-Angela hug.

Murel smiles.
"Reunions are the best part."

 

"Well, at least she's recovered." I say.


"A...Angela? W-What happened?" Katie asks, confused.

"Y-You got really hurt, a-and y-you broke s-some bones, b-but you're fine now!" Angela says.

"Where...am I?" Katie asks, glancing around.

 

Alice cuts the connection.


"You're in the waiting room to the palace hospital. You made a slide down a staircase and crashed into my shield, then I knocked you out and brought you here." Murel explains.

 

"I...I remember...looking for a talking pet...and then...ugh..." Katie says, trying to remember what happened.

 

"You mean Embers? Well, you were in the correct tower." Murel says. "But, what do you want with Embers?"

 

"W-We were l-looking for a relic, a-and apparently t-the queen of t-this place had a p-pet that buried it s-somewhere." Angela says nervously.

 

"Well, I can't help you with the relic, but Embers buries lots of things. You'd have to ask her... and at this point, the poor girl's fur is falling out."

 

"W-Why?" Angela asks.

 

"She loved our queen, obviously... since Liv vanished, Embers refuses to eat."

 

"S-So she'd rather starve?" Angela asks.

 

Crystal shifts, taking a lower stance, but letting his torso rest on a blob instead of legs.

"What about you? You got a name?"
I ask, turning my head.

 

"She eats scraps, but never when anyone's looking. Seems like it, though."

That helps, his sight no longer shaky.

"Not one that I'm proud of." They respond.

 

"T-That's depressing." Angela says.

Katie tries getting up, albeit uneasily.
