Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Within a minute, the pair are in a dome... the largest one available - as in the Xlentia-sized one.
"So, uh... ready for a demonstration?" Linoa asks.

 

"Go ahead."
Crystal offers, watching.

 

Linoa preps her artillery before a holographic display emerges from her eye.
"Let's start with the standard payload. You, uh... might want to shift low to the ground." She warns. "This is meant to take out a full regiment at once."


Linoa tosses Crystal a ring.
"Peek through that, so you know where not to stand. I don't intend for you to get hit with this."

 

"Okay."
Crystal says, catching the ring as he shifts into a puddle on the ground, and then looking through the ring.

 

The ring shows a red beacon pointing at the far end of the arena, a pulsing ring emerging from it. The rings are in three colors; green, yellow, and red. On the side of the ring, Crystal can see that it's markings for kill rates; green being a guarantee, yellow being 80% kill and guaranteed mortal wounding, and red the threshold for 50% kill rates.

The ring also has a gauge on the display that says "0.01%" but has no label.


"You in the clear?" Linoa asks, focusing.

 

"Uhhh..."
Crystal moves away from the blast zone more, checking the percentage.

 

It changes to "0.005%."

 

Crystal keeps moving away and checking.

 

He ends up hitting the other end of the arena where the percentage reads "0.0001%."

 

"I think I might be in the clear."

 

"Messing with the killrate reader?" Linoa asks, glancing back at Crystal.

 

"Yeah, but, whatever."
Crystal says, letting the ring drop onto him.
"I'll be fine. Fire away!"

 

Linoa fires, the beacon point exploding with omnielemental light.

It takes a full minute for the residual to fade, then Linoa turns to Crystal.
"That's the normal payload. Don't get me started with bigger ones."

 

"I don't think I want to."
Crystal forms back up to a standing position, ring in hand.

 

Linoa reverts her artillery again.
"So, yeah. That's my actual job."

 

"We're not training with that, right?"
Crystal asks, walking over to hand Linoa the ring.

 

"Nope." She says, taking the ring back. "This would... probably make you crumble if you were holding that thing."

 

Crystal nods, a bit fearful.
"So, what did you want to practice with?"

 

"Some... less traditional weapons. Something you can't shift into easily, like chainblades or projectile weapons."

 

"I've got a few things when it comes to less traditional stuff, but I haven't even practiced a little bit with weapons I couldn't shift into."
