Mage is good because it has heal. AKA you live forever unless you forget to press Right-Left-Right. In no way is it actually "busted," that was an exaggeration hinted by the /s. That's why it was there.

Generally I just spam the area with a horse while jumping. There's always somewhere where a horse fits, and you can then easily escape by getting on the horse.

 

It's not. It's really good, but it isn't broken. It's not better to the point of breaking the game of being unfair. So no, it's not busted.
