About a year ago, I discovered a game called Mafia. Let me say straight-away that I was fascinated by how it works. Since November I've been working on my own, and now I think it's time to...for lack of a better phrase, bestow it upon this forum. Announcing…

“But what is Mafia?”

Mafia is a party game that originated some time in the 1980s. Mafia, in essence, is a game pitting two sides against each other - the innocents, a majority group whose goal is to discover and eliminate the mafia members hiding amongst them - and the mafia, a knitted group dedicated to killing every last innocent in play.

The game runs on a day/night cycle. During the day, the innocents discuss and attempt to find someone to lynch in the hopes that they kill a mafioso. At night, the mafia send out one of their members to kill a target of their choice. In the case of Wynn Mafia, each phase (day or night) will last approximately 48 hours, for a total of about 96 hours in one in-game day.

Lynching is the innocents’ primary method of killing mafia members. Every day, players may cast votes on suspicious peers (eg. Vote: stlast). At the end of the phase, whoever has the most votes piled on them will be killed. In the case of a tie, no-one will be lynched. Additionally, players may vote for a no-lynch, which is self-explanatory. If the votes result in a tie between a player lynch and a no-lynch, the no-lynch will always lose.

Every night, the mafia may vote in their private chat on a player to kill, plus the mafioso who will be sent out to perform it. That player will be found dead at sunrise unless under some sort of protection to survive the nightkill.

Information gathering is the innocents’ key to victory. Using whatever methods are available, the players should attempt to learn as much as possible to determine just who might be part of the mafia.

Most mafia games feature roles: powers assigned to players that may help them achieve their goal(s). Cop, doctor, and vigilante are examples of very common roles in Mafia.

If you’re still confused, search the rest of the internet for more details. There are plenty of sites dedicated to explaining the game.



“Then what about this Wynn Mafia? What makes it special?”

• Wynn Mafia is a “role madness” mafia game - there are no vanilla (powerless) roles. As a result, it’s ludicrously difficult for me to achieve perfect balance, but it makes for much more interesting gameplay. I’ve made a total of 31 roles based on various characters/NPCs in Wynncraft, which means that the game is capped at that many players (which is still pretty high for mafia).
• A health system will be used.
• Emeralds are the game’s currency. Items, weapons, etc. can be bought with emeralds.
• The game also features items, which overall have a number of functions. I don’t have quite as many as I want at the moment, but 35+ items (and 30+ weapons) isn’t too bad, all things considered.
• To aid with information gathering, players have a small chance to find clues every phase.

“How can I participate?...and why?”
To join, just post below saying in bold that you wish to participate.
At the end of the game, I’m going to take some time to review every player and score them. Depending on how well you play, you have a chance to get an LE prize. In total, I’ll be giving out at least 50 LE. As said before, your performance will increase your reward. Rule-breaking may disqualify you or have a penalty on your score. Keep in mind that 50 is the minimum I’ve set, and I may increase it if the game goes well enough for it to be deserved.
My goal is 16+ players. The cutoff is 31. However, any signups after that will be noted should a replacement be needed (inactivity will result in replacement). Keep in mind that Mafia is a very involved and lengthy game. If you do not think you can dedicate yourself to it for several weeks, please think twice before signing up - I don’t want 20 players signing up only for none of them to actually play.
If everything goes smoothly (it probably won’t, but I’m trying to be as solid as I can here), then I hope to get the game going by the end of June.

The game will take place in its own thread in the Forum Games section. I will make a post here when the thread is up.

This is my first time hosting a Mafia game (and I have yet to play one, but that will change soon), but that doesn’t mean I do not understand the game’s functions. I’ve been working on this for months, and I have a 25+ page document detailing every mechanic, role, item, etc. that I’ll put into play. I’ll begin to go further into detail if enough people are interested.

Too gimmicky imo, but it might work... also, how would you punish the mafia if they use pms to communicate without you knowing?

And, you can't protect against editing a post, because after an edit it doesn't say when or if it was edited.
