Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Linoa looks over.
"Got an extra?"

His eyes glow a dull grey through the smoke. Seems that isn't doing anyone any good.

"The objective is to live with it until someone else more capable rises to power."

 

Stephanie holds out another one of the potions.

"They're pretty useful, but taxing on the mind." Stephanie says.

 

"Hon, that's-" Rineth protests.
"Screw it, I'm already drunk." Linoa says, downing the potion.

 

"It's not alcohol." Stephanie says, confused.

 

"She's already brain dead." Rineth sighs.

 

"Any idea as to what that would be?"
I ask, throwing more rocks into the moat.

 

"To be honest, no."

 

"Hm."
I comment, choosing some of the bigger rocks to throw in.

 

Eventually, the pile reaches the surface as the queen sits down on the remnants of the wall.
"Whew... I can't believe the workers put up with this day-in, day-out..."

 

Stephanie gives Linoa a slightly concerned glance before flying back up and onward.

The group powers on toward the city, energy renewed.

 

"I'd imagine most of them got used to it, having the whole thing being their job and all."
I say, unsurprisingly having no signs of fatigue.

 

The group passes several other webs, a few more packs of hellhounds, and a few other... underworld natives. They all observe from a distance, until the group passes by a robotic draconic-centaur construct that's laying idle.

"I would've doubled their salary if I knew." She sighs. "Or tried to get a golem to help."

 

"Did you have many golems here?"

 

"Only three, but they're all just sitting in the gauntlet. Or were, I don't know how stable the castle is since a few rooms collapsed."

 

"What was that gauntlet for, anyways?"

 

Artemis takes curious interest.

"Hello?" Artemis asks, hiding her nerves.

 

"Executions."

No response, its eyes still shut and its body still slumped on the ground.

 

"And if someone lives?"

 

"Golems take care of them."

 

"So no one's ever survived the golems?"
