    Looking for some mathematical minds to chat with.

    A fencing is set up as follows:

    Information:
    • The hexagon is not drawn to scale.
    • The fencing is represented by the thick black outline.
    • The hexagon is symmetrical on the AB and the WZ axis.
    • AB may or may not be equal to WZ.
    • Let the angle XZ makes with WZ be θ (variable).
    • Let AX be x (variable).
    • Let XZ be a (variable).
    • Hints will be posted around mid-way of the time limit (see Rules).
    Questions:
    1. Write an equation that calculates the area of the hexagon in relation to x, a, and θ. Let area = y. Simply it as far as possible. Has been solved by @Salkasm [​IMG]
    2. Differentiate the equation obtained from Question 1 in relation to θ and hence calculate the value of x in relation to a, y, and θ of the gradient function of y. Show all working. Solved by @Stycore [​IMG] [​IMG]
    As a clarification as it seems that the wording for Question 2 is different to everyone else relative to what I was taught. Here's the literal question: take the equation from Question 1 (as provided by Salkasm) and differentiate it with respect to θ. Rearrange the equation to make x the subject, then simplify the resulting equation using algebra.

    Rules:
    • No credit is given for Question 2 if the equation obtained from Question 1 is incorrect.
    • The first person to comment the answer to each question on this thread obtains full credit for that question. PMs are not counted.
    • You must clearly show all working in your calculations.
    • No further answers will be taken after exactly 7 days at the time of the posting of this thread. Answers will be revealed shortly afterwards.
    • You may use any and all resources you can get your hands on.
    • No bribing.
    Rewards:
    • Obtaining full credit for Question 1 rewards 12LE.
    • Obtaining full credit for Question 2 rewards 20LE.
    You may choose to post the answer for Question 1 as soon as you solve it or wait until you solve Question 2 as well to post both at the same time. Being the first to post the correct answer to Question 1 on its own guarantees 12LE reward, however it risks other players solving Question 2 before you by using the equation you wrote as the answer for Question 1. If you post both at the same time, you risk someone else posting the correct answer to Question 1 before you. Weigh the chances.

    No this is not my homework.

    Alright. Question 1.
    A+B/2*Height = Area Of Trapezium.
    AX = x

    Y = 2[(XY)(2x+WZ/2)]
    = 2 (2xXY + WZXY)/2
    = (4xXY + 2WZXY)/2
    (Multiply By 2 Because There Are 2 Trapeziums)
