"Regardless... I should probably practice my magic a little more if I want to keep myself around. Thanks for coming, though you may all want to go talk to Emerald about what to do now that you've got one relic."

 

"I-I hope." Angela says, eating her food.


"She actually told me to go see Nyx with the relic." Artemis says happily.

 

Ali leaves Angela alone.

"Oh, I guess that's a step. Do you know how many you need total?"

 

Artemis shakes her head.

"I mean, we still have to get that courage relic, right?" I say.

"Yeah, but we don't know where it is." Artemis says.

 

"Well, good luck. I'm going to hope I remember what magic sis taught me." Ali says, pouring herself some coffee.

 

"You could always take some magic classes in mine or Artemis' realm." I suggest.

 

"Maybe in Artemis'. I can't imagine that a realm of shadows would have classes on solar magic."

 

"You could always see what classes some of my people do. A few of us have socialised with certain humans to teach them our magic, and sunlight is an important aspect of nature." Artemis says.

 

"I guess, but I mean using light and the sun as fuel for sometimes literal fire. Like how you can get rock hotter than most magma with enough mirrors, except with your will."

 

"Like a magnifying glass?" I ask.

 

"Yeah. The mayor actually is a retired teacher, and one of a few Anubi who can harness sunlight from absolute darkness."

 

"Creational magic?" Stephanie asks.

 

"Somehow, no. He claims it's moreso storing sunlight inside of him, then releasing its energy later. Kind of like photosynthesizing, in a sense."

 

"Oh, that makes sense." Stephanie says happily.

 

"Still, it's strange. I don't understand how he isn't burnt by it."

 

"He could be using mage crystals to store power." Stephanie says.

 

"What's your name, by the way?"
I ask the guard, Crystal sitting down near the group.

 

"A what?" Ali asks.

"Craig. While we're at it, what's his name?" He asks Ytir.
"Ytir. Advisor to the chief of the Aral'hrah tribe."
"You even have tribe names? Huh. You're not nearly as mindless as we've been told."
"Thanks, I guess...?"

 

Stephanie summons an empty mage crystal in her hand.

"This." Stephanie says, holding up the mage crystal.

 

"Never seen one before. I guess it's possible, but I don't know where they would've gotten one."
