To All The Assassins Out There: How Do You Do It?

Level 58, I checked before I said it. You don't even have all the spell upgrades; you can't make a decision. Even if you were level 100, I wouldn't say you were a fellow since you obviously don't know how to play the class.

To the op, I'd recommend you at least get all the spells before giving up on the class. Level 1-20 is a really low point for most classes, and especially for Assassin. The class is all about spell chaining and strategy, but without spells, there's not much you can do.

 

I'm frustrated that we've had this argument so many times before, and it's getting old. Also, people aren't doing research before debating.

 

Archer is great early on.

I like Assassin because of this.
I like the challenge and having to think about things a lot more. I cheated a lot when I played through as an archer.
I started as Assassin till lvl 30 or so. That got hard for me then. After that I changed to Mage till lvl 40 or so and then I took a long break. I came back, started as my assassin again till lvl 50. Then I went to archer and I stuck with that.
Archer is very easy and you can cheat on a lot of things as you can jump to get up high and move really fast plus deal tons of damage and from a range and its also viable close up.

Now Im going through my assassin and Im almost lvl 80 I think. I really enjoy this as I have to take things more slowly, think about things more, be more careful and plan more. Find different ways to do things. I think it provides a way to play through Wynn in a harder way.

Thats just IMO and probably just for me because of my play styles.

 

Yes exactly. Assassin is useless without spells, making it (for me) harder to level up to the point of getting those spells. The base attacks for classes such as archer and mage are very effective stand alone therefore are easier to deal with while leveling up and getting new abilities. My point is that the upgraded spells that come with the assassin are less of "upgrades" and more like "missing features" because you cant really live without out them. Just to restate, this is obviously from my own experience.

I totally agree that being an assassin is more fun due to the challenge (which is why im trying to get into it). But it's sort of disheartening to see how much of a challenge it is compared to the other classes. Also, while the assassins shortcomings make combat more interesting, it does the exact opposite to exploring, making it rather cumbersome and frustrating when trying to causally maneuver the environment.

If I were to make it to level 80 with that class I wouldn't even had made this thread. My point is that the assassin class is unbalanced as hell, and frustrating to deal with early on making it hard to progress (for me of course), and i'd rather not have to deal with that, 'cause aint no body got time fo dat.

 

I have my 100 archer to explore :P
But yeah the struggle of doing /class while in a boat in the ocean while as an assassin was bloody deadly...
Where as I'd scaled the whole ocean on my archer extremely easily.

Also if its a struggle compared to how easy it is for other classes, play as those classes then? Or at least give them ago and take it 'easier' then try it with assassin. To me, Im really getting a different experience.

 

Assassin is kinda bad all around (trust me, I'm a level 75 Assassin), but it's even worse at that level. Once you get to this level, it's not as bad, but it's difficult to solo any same-level boss without a full inventory of potions. And don't even TRY to solo Bob, Qira, etc, with Assassin. Literally fucking impossible.

Assassin is pretty strong in early game, as spin attack can carry you through most situations.

Ok, in all seriousness, I find Assassin the easiest early game class to play. It has great dps and the range isn't an issue. I can't really think of a situation where you will not be in close proximity to mobs, so I don't see why you're complaining. I am fairly sure Assassin has the mini-jump (at that lvl), so it's really easy to quickly cast vanish then switch off of your weapon. All spells at early game cost a ridiculous amount of mana, which makes Mage actually hard to play (until like.. lvl 46, when you get another upgrade [although tpa upgrades don't really matter much]).
So, just.. hit the enemies. It's not hard.
And seriously, don't use vanish until lvl 46.

Also, vanish when you're in danger. it gives you a nice speed boost and a nice jump boost when it's upgraded.

 

How does it use far too much mana? You only have the spin attack spell, which takes like 5 mana only, and the vanish spell, which is "almost" useless before its upgrade at 46. I haven't actually been so stuck at level 20, as there are more than one place to grind in. You don't actually have to get too close to them. Believe it or not, it has about the same range as warrior, and there is also spin attack. Any tips... I think you shouldn't give a shit for these things which are actually solvable, and go on with your game.

Early game, all the classes are weak. Like osmebody else said, you should experience everything until you are level 80 so you can see that assassin is pretty defended in midgame to endgame.

The assassin is not unbalanced, and actually, it has great spells and an OK-Decent melee damage. Like I said above, early game is pretty hard as there aren't actually that good gear for the levels. You should have the time for it if you wanna beat your level 20 craziness.

That's the same I experienced while using my assassin class.

Sorry mister, but he's level 20. He doesn't have smoke bomb or the vsnish upgrade. Be sure to properly read the thread.

 

I like assassin early game

 

The problem isn't getting close and attacking, it's evading and recovering once you're finished with your attack, because while your dps is high you wont always be able to 1 hit everything and you'll have to recover, and you cant do that if your one method of escape sucks cost alot of mana to cast, and then continually drains afterwards. And while it is true that all classes require a not so satisfactory amount of mana early on, classes like mage, warrior, and especially archer don't need nearly as much mana to evade as assassins do.

You misunderstand me when i say that the assassin class is broken without the upgrades. I'm saying that being an assassin is unbalanced because it NEEDS the upgrades in order to even begin to be on the same playing field as the other classes when it comes to usability. Like... The tier 1 versions of all the other classes abilities work perfectly for the level that you are given them at, and they only get stronger as you level up which is how they are supposed to work. But when it comes to being an assassin, the tier 1 abilities are never enough. You always need to get to tier 2 or higher in order for the class to be playable, and in the mean time the class is trash against literally anything/anyone that isn't a melee user. Because YOU have to get way to close, but what if your opponent doesn't? Answer. you're screwed.

 

Trust me, mages and archers have MUCH harder times without upgrades. In fact, mages have to wait until LEVEL 21 to get a damaging spell besides the basic attack, and even then it's slow and finicky until level 36. And not only that, but arrow storm on archer is just... god, no. As a person who has played every class to level 100, trust me when I say that assassins have it EASY. Just invest in some intelligence and agility and you'll be fine at the level you're in
