Guys. Can anyone give me a description of what a Warlock does in a fight.

 

A warlock is a different type of spellcaster. Basically they can cast less spells at a time, but their spells are more powerful, and theyrequire shorter rests before casting again than other classes

They also use a d8 instead of the typical caster d6, so they are better in melee

The PM is out of habit. You mentioned you play DnD so it may not be nessesary.

But usually I need to explain all the races and classes and whatnot, so it's better not to clog up the thread explaining like what proficencies are and whatnot

So spells can have three different requirements. V, S, and/or M

V is Verbal. You need to say something to make the spell happen

S is Somatic. You need to do some hand movement

M is Material. You need a specific object in order to cast the spell (which is why you want a mirror). This material cost can be really weird and hard to obtain.

Now, if you have a focus or pouch, it's easier.

With a focus (wand, staff, ring, etc) you channel your magic into the focus, which is used instead of the Material component, basically getting rid of the M requirement. The pouch does the same thing, but instead of handling your magic you reach into the pouch and magically pull out the needed material.

Neither of these can be used, however, when the object has a price attached (like a diamond worth 1000 gp)

The reason I asked was to know if we needed a caster, which it seems we don't. I think I'm gonna go with Rogue unless someone disagrees.

I've played, though it is like 4 years ago I stopped. After that I began with Pathfinder which is basically DnD with small differences, but I stopped with that around half a year ago.
I am probably a bit rusty and need some things refreshed again. ^^

Artificers don't start with one, so I don't think you do.

The pouch legit only has the option of being a pouch. The focus can be almost any item that's been magically treated to be a focus.

Our only casters are a warlock and a cleric, but we also have an EK and Artificer as half-casters

It could, but since we did not define that as a feature I would say you need someone to make it a magic focus. There's are least 2 or 3 magic shops around, and your going to meet with a wizard, sooooo
