A Really Bad Pun & A Wynncraft Competitor?

This thread is dived up into two parts so keep that in mind
Ever since Kotaku released that article on Wynncraft, we've been getting a lot more exposure recently. What was normally a server of a few hundred players has turned into thousands on a weekday, and even more on the weekends

Aight, now to the second part of this thread, forever a while now Wynncraft has been the Minecraft mmorpg. It has had little to no competition over the course of its lifetime. The closest thing wynncraft ever had to a "Rival" was Zentrela, and even that shriveled to dust. We've always had a consistent playerbase since the beginning, And with the new exposure Kotaku and others have given us, wynncraft has been in a golden age of prosperity.

But something has been brought to my attention lately. A soon to be server called Karma.Direct. What's interesting to me about this is that it appears to be a Minecraft recreation of Sword Art Online (SAO). Whether SAO is any good is up for debate. Many squeebs and weebs have debated it over the years, I personally have no opinion. The trailer is up on YouTube and it makes a lot of bold claims, but in reality I haven't seen any of it for myself yet. The server is suppose to come out the 16th of June, giver take a week from now. Will it garner a huge fanbase to rival that of wynncrafts? or will it go the way of the dinosaur? Only time will tell...

You should change that only to Karma server or something else because this is also the server IP and it's against the rules to advertise the IPs. It's a good debate, though, tomorrow I'll post some things here!

 

But... Why have it be based on fucking SAO of all things? Don't even tell me it's because it's setting is a virtual world, these days that anime is just something to point and laugh at, not something to base a whole MMO server off of! I don't see very many people taking it seriously, other than any middle-school edgelords.

So I'm pretty sure this MMO is kind of shit. The texture pack is bland, the gameplay seems lacking from the trailer, the builds are just...

Also the owner and community seem REALLY toxic; the owner literally insulted someone who was pointing out that they didn't get Hippie's permission to use his footage, and, y'know, the whole SAO thing

I think some people are gonna check it out and then there is little content and a lot of bugs and the server will die again

Completely forgot about Mythros, I also remember that little dual server party we had with Mythros a few months before Gavel, they were realllly ambitious about the future of their server, whatever happened to them?

 

No idea, they use mods so they have a smaller audience

Actually, the main competator and really rival was dungeon realms, they were far more successful than Zentrela ever was.

This is also not the first time we've had a large influx of players. Back in 2014 there were a few big youtubers that gave Wynn some attention and they helped bring us up. Then we've been stable since, until the recent spike in players.

Maintaining an MMORPG in Minecraft is incredibly hard, it's actually quite amazing that Wynn has survived as long as it has. But, if they do manage to survive and prosper then good on them. It's always nice to have a little competition, and if we're on good terms with them then even better. I'd rather not have either side attack one another just because they're on a different server, it's petty and makes the respective server community look horrid.

 

From the trailer it looks very ambitious, which probably means it's not very well polished. They claim to have almost as many quests as Wynn, which has been growing steadily for four years, with a dedicated and skilled content team. I seriously doubt they'd be able to put that much effort into it without releasing it. I predict that it will be boring and repetitive, with a lot of thinly spread mediocre content. I'd be delighted to be proven wrong, though.

The builds seem a bit rushed as well. Vanilla trees, large featureless stone floors and a general lack of detail tell me that they were hurrying to get the world finished on time. They also neglected to show footage of the features they promised, which does ring warming bells. We'll have to wait and see.
