Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

I go back to my paperwork, looking bored again.

 

The relic and cloak still sits on your floor.


Emerald reaches out to you telepathically.
"Ever consider letting a librarian handle the papers?"

 

"No." I say, heading over to the relic and picking it up.

 

It's one of Virei'tus' scales, glowing radiantly with an odd light that doesn't seem to actually be there, considering it doesn't bother you in the slightest.

"Wouldn't scanning someone else's work be a more useful time? Besides, you've taken a few months away from serious exploration over here. Kinda unlike you."

 

"That tends to happen when the facade you've had for years is pulled away to reveal you're actually royalty." I say flatly, desummoning the scale.

"Guess they're dragon scales, not weighing ones..." I say to myself.

 

You can't desummon it, apparently.

"I mean, you pulled that curtain on your own. But, if I can't convince you, then we'll just keep waiting and holding as long as we can."

 

"Holding?" I ask, leaving the throne room.

 

"Duh. Did you actually believe the ruse that Xlentia's soldiers were on holiday?" Emerald snickers. "I thought it was so ridiculous that I just let Xlentia keep saying it and people would see straight through it."
Pause.
"Hasn't anyone told you, throughout any point in this ordeal, that the Hive Master does not simply sit around?"

 

"Well...yeah, but...I'm not really prepared enough to fight him. At least, I don't think I am." I say.

 

"You're not prepared, but you actually wound up being a lot more of a help in different ways than we thought. See, the sole threat of you possibly making a move against his home base has made him play defensively. We've been able to set traps and bait him out as long as you're out exploring with friends and shit. But since he's realized you withdrew, he's hounding us hard to try and get Xlentia back."
Pause.
"Don't worry about it too much. If you need a few more months, we can play that long game too. It's just, you being here absolutely turns the tides. You make progress and we get to make progress while you're at it. Gives us the buffer we had."

 

"Sometimes I wonder if I could harness everyone's minds he controls to utilise their psychic power and turn it back on him to mind control the hive master himself..." I say idly, walking through the palace.

 

"That's actually an interesting thought, but that leaves me one concern... if you had the power to override his mind control, what would differentiate you from him?"

 

I go silent for a bit.

"Maybe I'd rule the mind controlled like my own kingdom, maybe I'd rule them through fear of acting out would lose their free will, or maybe..." I say, pausing.

"I'd be even better than the hive master himself." I say, my voice sinister.

 

"I'd hope Tenebrae would reset you on the spot if it came to that."

 

"Maybe I'd control her, or maybe she'd take the power from me to become even more powerful," I say evilly, "To serve my goddess, I shalt give her ultimate control!"

 

"Kinda fucks over your relationship with Artemis, though."

 

"She'd be the only one I protect, to rule with." I say evilly.

 

"Then you're screwing over Tenebrae."

 

"How so?" I ask.

 

"If you're only protecting and ruling with Artemis, then you either are screwing over Tenebrae, or have indirectly become her, thus making your relationship stupidly awkward."
