Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Neal's drips the sinister fluid onto Artemis, which doesn't hurt but numbs her hand. The boy's makes her other hand abnormally more sensitive, letting Artemis feel how old the book is, when the house was built, what the family traditions were in the house... all things that shouldn't be felt.

 

Artemis drops the tomes immediately, backing away from them.

 

The numbness and extrasensory leaves her the moment she drops them, both eyes opening and staring blankly at the ceiling.

 

Artemis timidly opens Neal's tome with a wooden hand, ready to run.

 

...it won't open.

 

Artemis leaves the tomes be, putting them back in the house with wooden hands before walking away.

 

Nothing stops her, nothing interrupts her.

 

Artemis goes back to the farms to meditate.

 

No interruptions.


Ali nervously walks up to the shadow palace gates.
"Um... excuse me, but is there any way I could talk to Aj soon? I, uh... gave up a lot to get here, so I was hoping that I, well... could talk to him."

 

"If you wish to meet with the king, then you'll need to arrange a meeting first. It's quite simple, all you need to do is write a letter to the king explaining why he should devote some of his time to listen to you and pay four diamond, then bring it to us. We'll take it to the king, and if you're accepted, you'll be given a letter which tells you when your meeting is. If not, your four diamond will be returned." The guard says.

 

I nod, then keep on going.

 

"What do you mean, four diamond?" Ali asks, confused. "I had a few favors granted to me by the queen, but she destroyed them after bringing me home to my rebuilt cafe."

Artemis is meditating in the field, and Leo quietly keeps up.

 

"Well, here it is."
I say, stretching my hand out to show Leo the farm.

 

The guard thinks for a bit, calling to her partner and chatting to them.

"Are you Ali, and do you run a cafe?" The guard asks.

 

"Yes, and I used to. Business was booming so much, I wanted to talk with him to thank him and ask him one last thing." She says.

"It's like this shit never happened..." He mumbles.

 

I shrug.
"Well, can you eat something?"

 

"I mean, it's still a bit early for most of the harvest, but the corn's good." Leo says, waving a frosted white hand near the crops.

 

"Isn't the harvest in three weeks? Don't starve yourself."
I recommend, but it's more of a command.

 

I walk into the section about draconian sicknesses once more and read up on some books.

 

There's only one book in the library, and it discusses things that are... rather horrifying and awkward.

One disease that's marked "common" results in prolonged to permanent loss of elemental abilities, leads to birth defects, and can result in one's body fusing with its surroundings.
Another one marked "rare" is contagious and results in slow paralysis of the heart, with no prior symptoms.
