"That was a lie. She was just hoping you'd fall for it. Her soul wasn't at risk for being sacrificed, it was Perry's, that girl you sheltered."

 

"You mean Neal? She lied to me?" Artemis asks, surprised.

 

"Yes. She talked to a prophet who foresaw the death of our parents at your hands. She did that to try to get back at you."

 

"Is she usually so...evil?" Artemis asks.

 

"She's usually the one to oppose our parents from doing things like that. It was so unlike her, it was almost terrible to hear what happened. But, she fused me to this house... tried to keep my mouth shut."

 

"Where is she now? Could she undo the fusion?" Artemis asks, concerned.

 

"She's dead." He sighs.

 

Artemis goes silent for a bit.

"I...guess I'm sorry for your loss. Are you sure there's no way to prevent your death?" Artemis asks.

 

He shakes his head.
"I guess I was bound to suffer from my family's crimes. Thanks for hearing me out, though." He says, life force now very faint.

 

"Why was Perry the one meant to be sacrificed instead of Neal though? Is she part of your family?" Artemis asks.

 

"No, Neal was lying. Perry was always meant to be the one sacrificed." He utters, starting to have breathing troubles.

 

Artemis touches her crystal, changing into her death guardian form.

"Before you leave this world, I have one last question. Why was Perry meant to be sacrificed?" Artemis asks, her bow changing to a scythe on her back.

 

"It's always the youngest." He whispers.

 

"I'll make this as peaceful as possible." Artemis says, placing a hand on the eldritch user and draining the rest of his life, killing him painlessly.

"May Gaia protect your soul." Artemis whispers.

 

"She... desecrated... hers..." Are his last words, body becoming a lump of tentacles under a robe.

 

Artemis sighs, touching her crystal again and changing back, looking around again.

 

Neal's tome is now next to his, both staring at Artemis.

 

Artemis hesitantly reaches out and touches one of the tomes.

 

The one she touches blinks.

 

Artemis nervously picks the tomes up, worried.
