I say, then take off flying towards the portal, and to where I saw the book last.

 

The book's laying off to the side of the portal, though it's bursting at the seams with evil energies.
How did Neal conceal that...?

 

Making sure not to open it, I pick it up and look at it.

 

It looks back at you.
Dark energies slowly drip from the edges of the tome, the small pool seeming to reach out to Neal's ashes.

 

"You said yourself she gave you one. I thought you knew." Artemis says.

 

OOC: Ah, ok.
I say to the lab worker, "Yes, in fact. This one also has an illness, and the medications given to him had the adverse effect."

 

I hold the book above Neal's ashes, to see what the dark energies will do.

 

She pauses.

A wooden hand holds a wooden cup, a green liquid which smells of apples and freshly cut grass within. It seems to be offering it to the Matriarch.

 

She takes it and nervously takes a sip.

 

The Matriarch instantly feels calmer, the liquid tasting crisp, sweet and fresh, and the world around the Matriarch seeming to brighten.

 

"Wow... this is so weird. Better than the herbs the doctor has me take." She says, looking around.
"Wait, am I in the respite? This is incredible... I wonder why whoever created the ruin ever wanted to destroy this."

 

"Some people just want to watch the world burn" Artemis says calmly.

 

"But..."
The Matriarch just sighs.
"Why us?"

 

"Sometimes there's no reason. The victims may have done everything right, yet they face punishment through evil. Such is it's nature." Artemis says calmly.

 

"That's stupid. Can't you do anything to help us do something about it?" She asks. "I think I have something you can have as a gift, too. It's a blue stone that pulses like a heartbeat."

 

"The fact the respite is even here is in part my work. Things are already being done to cure the ruin." Artemis says.

 

I know, it's just... when I reached out to the goddess that's romping about the lowlands, I was hoping she'd bring someone who could bring the respite to my home, and at least the rest of the highlands."
