I have a weapon that the game allows me to add to my character, but when I try to fight with it, I get a message saying it doesn't meet requirements. But it does allow me to carry it around. But it's useless. No problem with that -- switched to a different weapon.

I had a headpiece that it wouldn't allow me to wear -- didn't meet the requirements (that's how I learned about requirements!). This, I understand.

However, looking at my character now, lots of the items I'm wearing have X next to one of more requirements.

Now I'm beginning to thinking that the game allows me to wear items that are worthless (big X showing requirement not met).

So, the question becomes: does the X showing a requirement is not met mean that wearing the item (that I am able to wear) is the same as wearing nothing in that slot (I don't benefit from the stats of the item)? Have I been running around effectively naked all this time?

You cant put non-suitsble armor and if you can, its probably a visual glitch meaning its not really on you.

You can put any weapon in your slot but cant attack with it unless requirements are met.

Think of like you can hold it until it is deemed using. So you can put it in your inv and move it around, but USING the armor isnt allowed and attack with the weapon isnt either.

I just checked my 4 characters again, and now they are good. No 'X"s on any requirements anywhere. I now recall seeing this situation before (X next to requirements on a worn item) and I logged off and on and it fixed it. It now appears (to me) to be a glitch of sorts (only in showing me the X), perhaps related to me switching classes.

I now trust that if I am able to wear a clothing item, then I get the stats from it, whether there is an X next to the requirement, or not.
I will try to get a pic if it happens again.

Pretty sure clothing item was actually accepted in the slot (without the X on the requirement) only to later show the X. I'll watch is some more -- see if I can find a pattern.

I was able to reproduce this. X's everywhere. From a /class switch. I was able to clear the X's by removing one clothing item and putting it back on again. Problem solved. Or, at least, a good workaround.

This is likely a glitch in which the requirements reads your base skill points right after doing /class, not your total skill points (your base skill points plus the skill points recieved from wearing some types of gear). When you then re-equip one of the items, the system re-reads the requirements, this time including the total amount, thus it appears to be fixed.

I am not sure this is how the glitch works, but it seems most logical to me.

Seems like a visual bug. I've had it before. You should still check your armor just in case.. so that it doesn't pop off and you happen to have a full inventory.
