Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Essentially, a form of light that has no effect on Shadows. It's a little dimmer though, but it's usually best to not use actual light in our realm." The guard says.

 

They pause, before redoubling their pace.
"I'm sorry, your majesty, but I would have preferred it if you started with that piece of information."

Strangely, the crystals end up cleaning nothing. However, Stephanie feels completely unaffected, as if there's no difference between the ruin air and the respite air.

"Woah, hold on... king?!"

 

Stephanie takes the mask off, taking out a journal and writing in it about the ruin and respite air.

 

A comparably oversized mantis seems to be watching her, body half-hidden in the remaining forest.

 

Stephanie flies over to them once she finishes writing in her journal.

"Hello!" Stephanie greets, smiling.

 

They hold out a hand, armblade underneath.
"Uhm... hi. I'm Orchid. Uh... you're not dressed like an academy mage..."

 

"I don't know what or where the academy is, actually. I'm actually quite interested in visiting it." Stephanie says, shaking he Mantis' hand.

 

"Please don't. I'm just glad you're not with them. It also probably got wrecked in the chaos."

 

"That's unfortunate. What was so bad about the academy?" Stephanie asks.

 

"They trained people to kill us in ways we couldn't understand. Yellow bolts would come and make us twitch until we die, or we could just never move our limbs again. We were burned from the inside out, and the ground below us pierced our exoskeleton and we were left to bleed out."

 

"Lightning magic, paralysis, fire magic and earth magic." Stephanie explains, taking out four potions from her cloak. The first potion is yellow, the second is a light grey, the third fiery red and last brown.

 

"So... the Academy is just teaching humans to kill us with magic?"

 

Stephanie nods, "From what you described, that sounds like the case." She says, putting the potions away.

 

Orchid sighs.
"Their normal weapons and soldiers were doing just fine..."

 

"Why can't your two species get along?" Stephanie asks.

 

"I dunno. The robot and miss Artemis said that many humans were just given false information."

 

"Oh, I know Artemis! She's a friend of mine! I guess she really got around here." Stephanie says, giggling cutely.

 

Orchid smiles, though it's a bit creepy with the mandibles.
"She made quick friends and kind of tyrannized anyone who thought she was an enemy."

 

"That sounds like Artemis!" Stephanie says, her giggle turning to a laugh.

 

"Oh, did she ever hang up that painting? I heard the Matriarch gave her one."
