"If you can, then yes. I don't want to waste a favor on something I can get as easily as dead bodies."

 

"Alright. Have you gotten any contact from the lowland tribes? I sent someone down to talk to them."
Crystal looks confused, but doesn't end up asking anything.

 

"That dragon came back and said there wasn't any lowland tribe."

 

"I'll change the request." The doctor says, leaving.

"We can attach both prosthetic and flesh arms, it's just generally assumed people prefer flesh." The surgeon says.

 

"Ah, my apologies. I guess I should've clarified that I needed an arm I knew couldn't be sacrificed. Like the rest of my body."

 

"Huh. Alright, then."
I whisper something to Crystal, and he seems to understand.

 

"Oh, so you're working toward not being human?" The surgeon asks.

 

"Well, not exactly. It's just that, if I have a prosthetic arm, it's easier to bargain with the fallen gods. Then they know they can't take control of my body by decaying it all. Then I can give up less flesh when I have to deal with them."

"He then left and hasn't shown up since, but... I couldmve sworn there were two other tribes."

 

"Fallen gods?" The surgeon asks.

 

"When'd you last hear of something they did?"

 

"Maybe ask another eldritch mage. Our practice involves cutting deals with banished gods and creatures which then take on bodies of darkness, that being all they have left. We then exchange out alliegance for strength and inhuman abilities and endurance."

"As a rumor from my father. Why?"

 

"You said you hadn't gotten in contact with them in a while. Maybe they died somehow."

 

"Eldritch doesn't have anything to do with fallen gods, Miss. The creatures with bodies of darkness just sound like Shadows to me. The only gods among us would be the king and queen of the realm." The surgeon says, confused.

 

"Of course it does. Fallen gods, banished beasts, and the most sinister of forbidden magic. What, are you from another version of reality?"

"Well... there isn't a whole lot out there."

 

"And now there's probably less."

 

"There's been news about that actually. I think we are, or rather, you are." The surgeon says.

 

"Wait... seriously? So, your goddess isn't actually a high god?" Neal asks, looking pissed. "I wasted my favor asking to meet some run-of-the-mill goddess?!"

"No doubt..."

 

Pause.
"Well, Crystal and I were off to get Artemis so food shortages stop being a problem. Will you two be staying here?"

 

"Yes."
"Can I come?" Aral'hrah asks.

 

"I don't see why not, truly, but it'll be mainly searching and then going to the castle and where all the humans are."
I inform.
