Official Event The Great Item Naming Contest 2: Electromagic Boogaloo: Results!

Kept you waiting, huh?

This time around we had even more pages of submissions(though a lot of you didn't read the rules, probably 10% of all the posts in there were reminding you to fix your submissions), a grand total of 37! A lot of you seemed to think that Corkus related stuff was what I was looking for, but really it was just an excuse to cleverly tie in a joke rather than a theme. I eventually narrowed down the best; it was tough sifting through all the submissions but we have our winners, folks!


1st Prize Winner:

@xKindredKinesis with Call to Concord!

Both myself and the content team were in agreement when I first brought up the private vote to them that this name was just really cool. There's something about it but I don't know what that just seems so mystical!

2nd Prize Winners:

It was only brought to my attention with the private vote that this is the name of a candy. I knew of it but I was just thinking something really cool and spacey with it instead. I suppose the colors of Starburst are the colors of stars though? Except the pink one, maybe.

This was chosen on a similar basis to Puppeteer from the first contest. It's an interesting name that certainly lends itself to a particular style, so I'm definitely going to have fun making this one, whatever item it turns out to be.

Another somewhat macabre entry leaning into the "damage junkie" side of the playerbase. When I read it I got in my head the image of the over-shadowy anime guy holding a giant cleaver with the glowy eyes and smile and I just couldn't turn it down.

Shiny! Just a nice simple standalone name that allows plenty of creativity. It's a bit of a dramatic one, but unlike some entries, not edgy as heck, which gave it a bit of charm.

Apparently, this is French for slavery. This is the kind of thing I like to see in "translator" names! At first I just liked the sound of it; it was only after remembering Albedo that I decided to look it up. It sounds like a standalone rather than an obvious "I ran a word through google translate" name!

@Mediv with Anamnesis!

"It augments anamnesis. What is so confusing about that?" Blame Magic: The Gathering for this one. I used to play it and that flavor text always stuck out to me. This reminded me of it, but at first it was just an honourable mention until the CT decided they liked it!

Obscure term, my tail! Google always prevails. Similarly to Esclavage, it just sounds neat in addition to being an actual term, apparently for planets, angels, or one's inner self. That leaves a lot of good interpretation for item-making as well!

Hey, a return-winner! And another third-place spot as well! I decided to indulge a bit and choose at least ONE ridiculously edgy name from the submissions and this one was the one, in part because it's short-and-sweet rather than having like three words in its name, and partially because the succinctness of it allows for some leeway in its stats.

Now, the honourable mentions! There was some confusion last time; these items caught my eye, but they didn't actually win. Some people were asking me when their item from here was going ingame; these ones are not being used!

I liked the sound of it but it really railroaded itself into being a predictable thunder-based item due to the name, unfortunately.

Another cool-sounding standalone name, but apparently it's also the name of a digital marketing firm. It was between Luminis, this name, and one other later.

This had a similar case to Anamnesis in terms of the ideas I had for it but in the end my personal biases won over due to my past history with the word. I never said these contests wouldn't be without bias!

This was the other cool standalone, and unlike Ethinos, this was totally made up. Google's only result, funnily enough, was the item-naming contest thread! Luminis ended up winning in the end, cause I just couldn't think of anything that this item would've been. It was a bit -too- original for its own good, if that makes sense?

That concludes The Great Item Naming Contest 2: Electromagic Boogaloo! Considering how many people refused to follow the rules, I might change things up for the next one(but I don't know if we will keep doing this, depending on how things go). A Google form was a common suggestion, so we'll see what could potentially happen in a few months with The Great Item Naming Contest 3: Revenge of the Uth! Keep coming up with those cool names!
