"Consider a balance between wolves and rabbits. If there are too many rabbits, the wolves shall kill them all and multiply too. With the lack of rabbits, the wolves shall die out, allowing the rabbits to breed once more and the process to repeat. If this is kept in balance, there are never too many of one side to distrupt it." Artemis says.

Artemis sighs.

Artemis walks over to the almost-dead human, placing a hand on their chest and filling them with life.

 

"Should I check all the others?"

 

They start breathing again.


"But... that implies that you want an unnatural balance for nature."

 

"If you wish." Artemis says.

"That was a basic and poor example. There are many more factors than population to take into consideration. Some balances must be kept equal, while others greater or lower than each other. It is a complex process, and difficult to understand. Such are the tasks for Forest and Death guardians." Artemis says.

Then go to check the status of the bodies.

 

"Then why have we never needed them before now?" The raptors ask, still confused.

Emerald telepathically links with you and Artemis.
"Pardon my interruption, but talking about such a deep subject with a race that does not yet understand how fire works may not be a good use of your time before you have to pull back out of pure elemental form without condemning yourself to another week in those vats."

They're breathing. Stable, at least.

 

"I can sustain myself in this form for long enough, though I can see the effects interrupting with this race's evolution may cause." Artemis says.

"Long enough doesn't mean quick recovery. Bite the bullet, take a few casualties, and go normal again. You stopped the fire, now you have to figure out how to manage the Ruin." Emerald reminds.

 

"Ihra? I see. It seems she's a prophet in this realm." I comment.
"Anyways, do you have any information on a Hydra? I think his name was CKB."

 

"Ah, yes. He's very old and always cranky. Never could find anyone willing to lop the rest of his fourth head off for him."

 

Artemis nods.

"Excuse me, but who is the death guardian here? Don't try and manage my life, Emerald. If you have a better plan why don't you come here yourself and fix it instead of trying to command me like one of the Hive Master's minions." Artemis snaps, annoyed.

 

""Can you please tell me more about him?"

 

"So, got a whole plan for the destroyed Inhibitor?"

 

I stand in awe of the size of Xlentia. I continue to stay silent

 

"Fine, do what you wish. Sorry for not wanting you stuck in a vat." Emerald growls, severing the connection.

Xlentia pulls her head back, revealing that she really is just an unnaturally large dragoness.
"Okay, are you done here, mortal?" Xlentia asks, smiling as she flaunts her painted armor.
"My point wasn't to threaten your people, it was to emphasize that we really have better things to do with the sheer amount of power we have at our fingertips." Ragnyon adds.

"He's always lived in that swamp, and has driven people off almost constantly. CKB also seems to be looking for someone to kill, but I don't know who. It's not just anyone, but whatever pent-up anger he has he's willing to take out on anyone."

 

"Aj's engineers are reverse-engineering it to study it better." Artemis says.

Artemis surveys the damage to the forest.

 

"The way you keep saying that makes it sound like a threat." I tell Ragnyon

 

It looks to be somewhat minor, compared to how long it took the message to get to Artemis. She's protected about 90% of the forest, though the mantis 'palace' seems to have been part of that ten percent, judging by some mantis guards carrying a sleeping Matriarch away.
