They shudder, but calm down.
"Glad you weren't here for when the ruin first spread, then. Think of this sort of stuff across the entire planet! At least, that's what chief keeps saying."

"Artemis!"
I call.
"You should probably stop!"

 

"Very well."
I walk into the portal and see Ragnyon

 

The raptor you carried runs over, then rushes to the other one, the two sticking together from thereon out.

She raises her hand, and suddenly all you can see is one giant, purple eye with what seems to be a hollow void around it. It's easily fifteen times a human's height.
"Ah, a skeptic? Little mortal, haven't you learned anything about the power of the high gods?" A playful feminine voice echoes.

"This is who I serve and who I am protected by. Meet Xlentia, Deity of Decay and High Goddess of The Void." Ragnyon introduces.

 

"Then they are evil. These lessons must be taught through blood, as they have spilt the blood of the forest herself." Artemis says grimly.

Artemis turns to you, and you see a slightly burnt looking skull beneath a dark cloak, Artemis' scythe held next to her.

"Why?" Artemis asks, her voice noticeably darker and ominous.

 

"What do you mean, forest herself?"

 

"Mass killing isn't good in general. Two wrongs don't make a right."
I say, walking over.

 

"Forests are alive, interconnected, and each have a heart. The hearts are an extension of Gaia, and by harming the forest, you are harming it's heart. By harming the heart, you are harming Gaia." Artemis says.

"I have only instilled fear as vengance for what they have done. I have not killed, only made unconscious or weak." Artemis says ominously, staring at you with hollow eye sockets.

 

"Who's Gaia?" The two raptors ask in unison.

 

Fairly used to hollow eye sockets, I don't seem phased.
"If you say so."

 

"The Goddess of Life and Mother of Nature in my world." Artemis says.

"Do you doubt me?" Artemis asks, tilting her skull to the side as her fingers click against her scythe.

 

"Considering that you're looking very Death-like, yes, a bit."
I admit.

 

"But... this isn't your world. And forests don't have hearts here. It's just a bunch of trees all together that make nice places to live."

 

"So, you're assuming from the fact I had my flesh burned off of me, and I had to resort to taking on my elemental form, I create death wherever I go?" Artemis asks.

"And that is reason to burn them down? Snuff out life because you don't see it as important?" Artemis asks, sounding annoyed.

 

"Well, no, but you're making it sound worse than it could be. Didn't you go get the inhibitor? Don't the ashes make more things grow?" One asks.
"I always find grass tends to pop up near the firepit." The other adds.

 

"It looked like you were killing people."

 

"Death can bring new life, but you should not use that as principle to create it. Balance is key. You may wish to create more ashes from felled trees, but will the grass it fertilises match that of the fallen tree?" Artemis asks.

"I was simply draining their blood to make them unconscious so they can harm no more." Artemis says.

 

"Alright."
I say, walking over to the nearest human body-

and checking their pulse.

 

The raptors seem concerned, suddenly.
"...What?"

It's faint and still slowing. They may as well be dead.
