Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"It'll just be you and me, I promise." She reassures, hobbling over to the portal again.

 

"It's history and culture."

 

I check what equipment they're using to burn.

 

Flint and steel for some, fire magic for others.

"Culture I couldn't tell you. However, we started generations ago... though I'm the only one alive from its founding. See, my mother petrified me after I caught up with her studies. What people don't know about gorgons is that petrification only lasts so long. Thus, I slowly rose from my rocky sleep and woke to a rather disorganized colony that grew too fast. I had to train a group to manage everyone and rewrite the code of law since an outside force had tried to conquer the remains of us."
Pause.
"Enough about me - we've kept to ourselves, but we've been invaded by humans and dragons while holding our ground. We may have been wiped out if the prophet Ihra didn't step in to save us in our time of most dire need. It's a shame I've never seen her again..."

 

Artemis sprints over to one of the leaders of the group trying to burn the forest down, or the one that appears to be doing the most damage if none are apparent, before knocking whatever item they're using to burn the forest down out of their hands and sinking her terth into their neck, draining their blood until they're unconscious.

 

"Want to help kill some humans?"
I ask the raptor on my back.

 

This implants a clear message into half of them.
...the other half just light Artemis on fire with everything they had been using to burn down the forest.

"Why?" They ask. "They look like us the day the ruin hit. We didn't know what to do, and neither do they, it seems."

 

"Did you guys burn anything?"

 

"Yeah."

 

It appears that wasn't the smartest choice.

Artemis burns alive, looking incredibly pained as her skin and armour burns away. However, what's left is a skeleton, scythe intact on it's back as it stands up straight, fangs visible in it's skull as a dark cloak appears around it, the skeleton resembling Death.

Artemis points a bony finger toward the first person who set her on fire, and they find their life force rapidly draining.

 

"Fair enough, then. Let's go."
I head deeper into the forest.

 

The others, terrified, pass out or just flee.

The raptor clutches tighter again as you accelerate.
"I just don't see why they're doing it to our home instead of theirs. When we panicked, we kind of burned the stuff around us."

 

"...Huh."
I say, looking for a place to land and drop off the raptor.

 

As you reach the edge of the forest, really anywhere on the ground would be fine.

 

I land, kneeling to let them get off..
"You'll be fine?"

 

Artemis seemingly teleports over to one of the fleeing people, grabbing them by the neck and lifting them up.

"If you wish to bring death to the forest, then Death shall come." Artemis says, staring with hollow eyes into the person's eyes, before biting them in the neck, causing blood to spill down them before Artemis throws them down, the wound healing enough not to cause fatal bleeding.

 

They just scream, the raptor having since jumped off the burning Artemis trotting back up to her.
"...What happened to you?"

They jump off.
"I think so. Thanks."

 

"Alright. Bye, then."
I say, running back to where the people we burning the forest.

 

Artemis seems to be killing/scaring them off, the fire slowly looking to be contained.

 

"Their ignorance and cruelty transformed me into my elemental form, and now they're paying the price." Artemis says, giving the raptor a gentle pet with a bony hand. As the raptor is pet, they feel their life force strengthen a bit, any wounds or burns they may have healing.
