Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Stop!" Artemis shouts.

 

"Yeah. I just came back here."

"You're not getting an audience with them." An archer says around a corner.

 

Artemis throws her scythe, and it spins around the corner, aiming to bisect the the archer as a dark presence surrounds it.

 

"Alright. Well, I need to check with the Matriarch to see if she or her followers found anyone to run the gauntlet. Can you two take care of yourselves?"

 

They duck back.
"You spill a drop of my blood and that family dies, right now." They warn.

"Yes."
"I suppose, though I'm not used to snall talk."

 

"What would killing them achieve but remove your figure heads and source of soul?" Artemis says, her scythe spinning back to her which she catches as she skids around the corner, holding her scythe against the archer's neck as she swiftly kicks out their footing.


"I know what you're doing here, and I'm going to put a stop to it." Artemis says, staring into the archer's eyes through her mask.

 

They just smile.
"Oh, sometimes I just love how shit being the middle child winds up being."

 

There's a slight red glow behind Artemis' mask, and nightmarish visions of death flash before the archer's eyes, the archer feeling every death as if they themselves were the victim of it, the visions and pain enough to turn someone insane.

"Tell me everything you know about the inhibitor and real royal family." Artemis says, her voice with a sinister, darker undertone as she presses her scythe against the archer's neck. Anyone who gets near Artemis finds their bodies starting to shut down, their life being drained and muscles locking up.

 

They grin, close their eyes, then go limp.
Something killed them remotely.

 

Artemis, returning to normal, tries to trace the kill.

 

No need to trace; there's an arrow going through their skull.

 

Artemis looks at the impact of the arrow, trying to figure out the direction it came in. Artemis also rips the arrow out of the archer's skull, looking at it to see what it's made of.

 

Its tip is of a mantis armblade fragment, the stick made of a withered vine, and the fletchings bloody raptor feathers. Looking in the direction it was fired is another archer, though they're already running a dagger through their neck, laughing at Artemis.

A scream can be heard from the other room.

 

Artemis bursts into the other room, looking around.

 

She needs to cut in with her scythe, but after she bursts in she finds what looks like the figurehead king with a lance run through his chest, wife and children hugging him and crying as Artemis hears a trapdoor click shut.

 

Artemis listens closely, focusing and trying to locate where the trapdoor clicked shut with her advanced hearing abilities.

 

The only thing she picks up on is that the trapdoor is somewhere in one of the right corners of the room... and that there's someone else running up behind her.

 

Artemis spins around and rams her scythe through whoever is behind her, dodging out the way of a possible attack.

 

She ends up hitting some kind of improvised bomb, splattering its carrier against the throne room doors as it knocks Artemis back hard and knocks the royal family to the ground.
Artemis' ears are ringing and she's sore, but it seems like she got lucky being this close to the detonation.

 

Artemis' ears turn black, as well as any wounds as she gets up and walks over to the king, seeing if he's still alive.
