I'm going to play it safe by assuming this topic has been brought up multiple times in the Wynncraft subforum (especially since this quest has been around for forever), so I'm just gonna ask here in hopes that someone who knows the answer will see this and fill me in.

In the quest The Angry Village, Lekal explains that the village he's in became corrupted because they found the Nether portal. This makes sense because the village is close to the Roots of Corruption, but if that's the reason why their village became corrupted, why isn't Elkurn corrupted? Elkurn is just as, if not more, close to the Nether portal than the corrupted village.

Elkurn didn't dig up the Nether Portal. Elkurn's citizens never came in contact with it.

Why the hell would villagers from a village that know about a terribly dangerous portal that could corrupt their very being go looking for it?

Even still, why wouldn't it become corrupted? Do you have to go to the corruption in order to be corrupted?

And then why was Ancient Nemract attacked if they didn't dig up the portal? The Corrupter of Worlds was just like "Hmm there's this lovely village right next to us, but I think I'm going to attack that town over there, and ignore the other town that we'll go by as well."

Look at the roots of corruption; the actual corruption doesn't spread much further from the source. Corruption doesn't spread through zombies and corrupted mobs, you'd have to come in close contact with the Nether portal to be corrupted.
The corrupted mobs spared no city. Add in the fact that Detlas was incredibly well-defended and a very important city that would be able to call in reinforcements, and it makes sense to attack the weaker city first.

Elkurn was built post swarms lorewise.
Only Ragni and Troms survived, everything else is relatively new.
The reason the village is angry is because they built their village too close to the portal, there are spikes in the village if you notice.

Ancient nemract is old, back then nemract was a new city and troms, detlas, ragni and almuj were the only strongholds.

Keep in mind that the reason why Ancient Nemract grew so big so fast was because they had a strong mining force near the portal.

    To all of you:
Detlas and Almuj weren't until the portal was found.

    To Cenpyla:
Elkurn was a little new village that would not make any matter if they attacked there, so they went to the big port village and attacked there.

Isn't that the neighboring of Dern?

Since I'm assuming you meant they weren't founded when the portal was first discovered; you are correct. I forgot about that, but it is the better explanation for why they didn't attack Detlas.
Ancient nemract wasn't a port, making it even more susceptible to attack. Elkurn was and is surrounded on all sides but one by rivers, the final side being the frozen tundra of Nesaak, also not a great place to attack from.
    Supposedly, yes.

It was near port, but you're correct, it doesn't mean port town. My bad.
