"So... you're a bigger threat?" They ask, more curious than hostile.

"Dangerous, if she's also teling the truth."

 

"I'm friends with a lot of dangerous people."

 

"How have you stayed alive? Here, it seems every other person has been on one end of a betrayal."

 

"I have nothing of considerable value. That, and we work towards a common objective, and many of my dangerous friends don't particularly enjoy betrayal."

 

"Then they might be able to help you plan." The Matriarch says, gently rubbing her eyes.

 

I nod.
"Are you okay?"

 

"We are created by Gaia to protect the Earth from destruction and threats. We're "Guardians" of our respective elements and areas. My kind, Forest and Death guardians, protect forests from deforistation and animals from extinction while maintaining the balance of predators to prey, and growing species to weaker ones," Artemis explains, "However, since this is not my world, I am not due to protect it as I would my home. I don't intend to become a threat or greater threat than the Ruin, though. I wish to help you rid the Ruin so life may bloom. Just because I am not due to protect this world does not mean I wish it to fall to, well, ruin. I naturally wish to see nature bloom and prevail."

 

"I woke up a bit ago."

"That sounds nice." She yawns. "Nice to meet you."

 

I nod, then turn to Artemis.
"I can catch you up quickly if you want to know what's happening here."

 

"Nice to meet you too. Though, I should probably warn you, since I'm a death guardian, I have a sort of natural liking for blood," Artemis says, tapping her fangs, "I can draw strength from the 'Life' of others, and since this world is so barren, I'll need to drink blood to stay strong. If possible, I'd greatly appreciate it if a few of your kind would be willing to donate some of their blood. You see, a death guardian does not necessarily wish to see all life removed, as then they would have no life to work with."

"Please do. As much as Emerald gave me a good description, I'm rather lost on what's happening." Artemis says, smiling.

 

"There's a human castle named Ruin's Respite that houses the Inhibitor, and item that keeps away the Ruin. The Ruin, however, was created by the humans. The problem was created by them, the solution was created by them, and the lack of care for any creature outside the walls is also created by them. Might I add that supposedly no human knows how the Ruin came about. So, we're conspiring against them, and trying to get the Inhibitor while keeping the royal bloodline alive, as the Inhibitor runs off of their souls."
I explain.

 

"I understand why there was such suspicion about my appaarance now," Artemis says, "I fear this is what would've happened to Earth without guardians to protect it. Humans would slowly kill it, creating their own end without knowing it."

 

"Humans tend to have self-destructive tendencies."

 

"It makes me wonder if they're a left-over non-magic base from Gaia, who wanted to see how they could survive, or a pawn in a game of destruction." Artemis says, zoning out slightly, almost lost in contemplation.

 

"Oh the silent type are we. Well you see I can be very persuasive." I say with my claws coming out
"Now do you want to do this the easy way or the deadly way?"

 

"I'd bet on the former. If humans were used in a bigger plan of destruction, the orchestrater is really taking their time."

 

"Dead men don't speak."

"Ambush. The toxin they used spread, eventually everywhere."

"I'll see to it that a few prisoners die to your hand, I guess." The Matriarch says. "Oh, do you have a home where you could put a painting? Thirteen didn't."

 

"It's Gaia, anyway. I doubt she's corrupt like that." Artemis says, shaking her head.

Artemis looks sickened.


"I do, but why do you need a painting hung up?" Artemis asks, slightly suspicious.

 

"Because I ran out of room in my gallery." She says. "I could show you the painting if you'd like."
