"Then why did they yell?"

"One of you killed the queen. You, as leader, bear the responsibilities."

"No."

 

"They didn't yell, Kiin. They were just excited." Katie says, walking up to the ice-cream hut.

"One mango ice cream, and, what would you like, Kiin?" Katie asks.

 

"Ice cream." Kiin says, still processing the earlier event.

 

"How many times do I have to tell you! No one of my kin killed your queen! And if you want the full story then I'll tell you." I exclaim

 

"You better, because none of us are buying it. Kill any more of us, and we'll rain fire on your village to even the scores." Laze growls.

 

I breathe
"The day your queen was killed...." I stop and continue
"She and I met in The Sacred Grove." I pause again
"We discussed on what to do if any one of our kin went rouge. We signed a peace treaty that stayed secret between the two of us. During our aforementioned discussion, an arrow just like the ones that have been shooting at me were shot at your queen. She tried to fight back but the arrows kept coming before we could react. In the end she died in The Sacred Grove. The skeleton in the mountain is a fake. Made from my Ancestral magic of Creation." I stop
"Now you know the whole truth Laze..."

 

"What do you mean? I could've sworn Ella burned down The Sacred Grove..." He asks, questioning.

 

"That's what she told you. But she didn't, she wanted to keep it a secret from the outside world. I casted a spell to make it invisible to all except the two of us. The one that killed her. Whoever they are somehow found a way into The Sacred Grove. And if they're here, I'm not going to let them get away."

 

Laze nods.
"I'll pardon you, but... that skeleton is not a fake. It's the queen directly after the one you've been blamed. We also keep the memory of our first queen... who was apparently the prophet herself."

 

"I meant what flavour." Katie says, laughing.

 

"Vanilla." Kiin says, a bit annoyed at being laughed at.

 

"And one vanilla." Katie says happily.

"That'll be 60 silver." The vendor running the icecream hut asks.

Katie hands over two silver coins, each with differing size, and the vendor scoops out mango and vanilla ice cream, putting them on cones and handing them to Katie.

"Thanks!" Katie says happily, offering the vanilla ice cream cone to Kiin.

 

Kiil takes it, happily starting on it.

 

The ice cream is cold, yet refreshing and strong in flavour. Katie starts to walk back to the beach, licking her ice cream.

 

Kiin follows, preoccupied as she goes along.

 

Katie heads back to the beach and sits down near the ocean, letting the water splash over her feet.

 

Kiin does the same, starting to eat the cone.

 

Katie licks her ice cream and watches the ocean, as if looking for something.

 

Kiin looks too.
"What're you looking for?"

 

"Mum." Katie says, licking her ice cream.
