Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

They shake their head.
"Mew look hungry enough."

"Ungh... uhm... made a break for it with the two escapees. Kinda slit their throats as they ran to the stronghold, then started giving them a piece of my mind where they displayed our body parts like trophies."

The other two throws are short, and everyone lines up again for throw 2, though number 10 accidentally steps past the line as the announcer shouts "FOUL!"

 

Onyx jumps off of the table, turning back to her human form.

"hiya!" Onyx says happily.

 

"You trashed the entire marketplace."
I point out.
"They sold other stuff there, too."

"Aww."
Crystal says, saddened.

 

"Mew looked lonely. Figured mew wanted company." They say, starting to eat their food.

"Like what, raptor feather blankets? Talon necklaces? Exoskeleton shields?! It's so much more disgusting than I thought!" He shouts.

"There's still that third attempt." Linoa reminds him, the other three not fouling but not doing much better than their first throw.

 

"It may seem like that, but most of their lives aren't revolving around what's outside the wall. Some just care about those inside."
I explain.

"Right."

 

"im furly indepawdmeownt, but its nice to meet anothfur of my kind!" Onyx says, smiling as she eats the rest of her fish.

 

"And your proof?"

Number 10 seems nervous as they approach the strip.
"If you're going to cheer, now's probably the time."

"To be fur, I'm not really one of mew."
The catfolk seems to digitize, resulting in Sapphire.
"I just wanted to see if you'd be interested in meeting more of your kind."

 

"I'm built to be better than a person. You can't be better than something if you don't know almost everything about it."

Crystal waits for the rest of the crowd to start, a bit unsure.

 

Onyx seems disappointed at first, before nodding.

"itd be nice to see if my kind was hunted outside of my furmily." Onyx says.

 

"Not only is your kind not hunted, but they're sort of common. Seems that some catfolk don't mind being raised as domestic cats, and so catfolk themselves are both pets and members of some societies, depending on where you look around these worlds."

Eklir hesitates.
"Then why did they seem to hate just the sight of me, before I rampaged?"

The crowd doesn't seem to be very excited for number 10, only a few people cheering.
"Come on, Crystal..."

 

"Because they know you were going to probably hurt them. They know you exist, most just often choose to not focus on that. It's like knowing what a word means, but not using it, but then realizing that you know it and what it means once you hear it."


Crystal cheers, letting out an excited "Woo, woo woo!"

 

"so theyre not just in my purrld?" Onyx asks, surpurrised.

 

Eklir seems skeptical.
"At least you've got something to show for the boss now."

Linoa smiles, and he seems to have caught number 10's attention, making eye contact as their demeanor changes a bit.
They get in a good throw, and keep looking at Crystal as they run back off to the tent.

"Not just in your world, and not just in your reality... though they prefer the term 'Neko' here."

 

"Speaking of which, come on, those that know you still think you're missing."
I say, walking towards Aral'hrah's territory.

Crystal waves to them, smiling.

 

"oh! i heard thats the purrm fur us in anothfur language on my purrld! i like it, it sounds nice." Onyx says happily.

 

"Huh? Oh... right."

45's throw is just barely farther than 10's, but after the awards ceremony where 10 gets a silver medal, he makes a beeline to Crystal and Linoa, curious.
"H-hey... if you don't mind me asking, what are you two? I've never seen anything but humans around..." They pant, winded.

"Well, if you find another, try not to call them catfolk. Just letting you know." Sapphire says, instinctively going to scratch behind Onyx's ears with her free claw.

 

I just keep walking.

"Well, I'm a rock, but people call me a golem, so either one works."
Crystal explains.

 

Onyx leans forward to assist, purring when Sapphire does.

 

Eklir catches up.
"What was that scene about, anyways?"

"Golem, huh? And your friend?"
"I'm a draconian. You might've heard of my kind if you've heard the stories about the prophet."
"Oh, right! I just... it's so weird to see something other than a human cheering for me. Sorry I let you down, golem."
"You win some, you lose some. We're just here on our days off." Linoa reassures.

This startles her, but Sapphire pets her for a bit longer before focusing on finishing her food.
"...You're the shadow palace cat, right? Do you think you could help relay a message to Aj for me, please?"

 

Onyx nods happily, fish tail waving about in her mouth before she throws it up and catches it.
