Alright, so I've just heard about Ensa's Failure and I thought... I just need to make a theory about this!
So I am here to deliver... drum roll please

    The Truth about Ensa!

Anyways, first, we need to look at the item names.

We have Ensa's Faith, meaning he believed in something. Ensa's Resolve meaning he made something to resolve/solve a problem, Ensa's Ideals, likely being a tool he used to resolve whatever, and Ense's Failure, meaning at the end of the day, he failed.

The most useful of these items is Ensa's Faith, because it has lore, which reads, "The scholar-priest Ensa created this pendant as a personal prayer while his home was under siege. It is rumored to hold the key to enlightenment, but it is unknown as to how."

Now, before I jump into my theory, let me quickly mention that we don't know if Ensa is 3000 or 5 years old, ok?

Now, I believe this "siege" is the decay. It had the same concept, where you go around a place, and keep waiting until the castle surrenders or decides to grow balls and attack. In the decay, the decay came, grew, and had the same waiting concept, and the light ended up giving in, which is the Dark Forest we know today.

Now, the resolve could have been the idea Ensa had, as to where he made a weapon to fight decay, more specifically, the being that caused the decay (The worm), and the ideals could have been tools he used to help the resolve out.

Looking at both of the item's stats, we see that the resolve requires intelligence, and the ideals give intelligence, which adds to my theory about the items.

Now, I am assuming Ensa ended up losing in the fight since there is a bracelet called Ensa's Failure which could have been the result. The stats on this bracelet are poison, thorns, and -health bonus. These are things that follow a dark theme, that goes along with decay.

Lastly, we hear about how people have "turned to darkness" in the quest Eye of the Storm, and I believe Ensa could have been one of them, as to where after the darkness beat him, the darkness took him, and Ensa began to lose his mind, just like Arwes says here:

      • Arwes: Welcome, my child. To the house of Talor. Or what remains of it.
      • Arwes: As you can see, times are hard in the forest, especially here in the west.
      • Arwes: I am all that is left of this church. Well, me and old Golie, of course.
      • Arwes: This used to be a thriving religious sanctuary, but all my brothers have turned to darkness.
      • Arwes: They think that because of the decay that our gods have abandoned us. They now worship demons.
      • Arwes: It's like the decay is in more than just the forest. It's like they've lost their minds!
      • Arwes: They recently kidnapped someone to sacrifice in the name of their deity. You're a Human, right? You have to save them! They are using the crypt north west of here, hurry!
    Points from this dialogue:
    • Members of the church fell to darkness, Ensa is likely one of them in my opinion.
    • He mentioned that their gods abandoned them, just like the light giving in.
    • A sanctuary is like a place where you can go to be safe, or a home, and Ensa, being a priest, could have spent his life there and thought of it as a home.

Aaaaaaand das it. I hope you like my theory, I certainly did.

Also @SPYROHAWK so that he can rate this outta 9

Alright I've thought about things, and I realize Ensa's Faith is lv73, which is in the right level range of the cathedral Ensa could have worked as a priest at.

Interesting thought by @Original_Potato is that Ensa's Failure's -soulpoint regen could be that Ensa's soul was decayed/weakened

New point: Ensa's resolve and ideals are higher than 73, as Ensa would have levelled up (Perhaps) in training getting ready to fight the decay, and his failure is level 98, perhaps the level when he decided to fight the thing

    Let's see here, outta 9 not 10?

Well, you get bonus points for tagging me (for some reason I'm not tagged st the bottom of every theory)

You loose a bit for not having much fact and mainly having speculation, you need proof

You loose some more for not having a counter argument, or (optional) a refute

You loose a bit more for me thinking you are @captainganon every time I look at your profile pic

But you get some back for the Eye of the Storm connection

    I'd say a solid 6.75-7/9

Make sure to find more proof that this is in fact decay, not corruption or Darkness or something else.

Add other possibilities (counter claims) and if you want shoe why they are wrong

Elsa's failure is actually some boots btw.
Also, speculation here, they have -SP regen... like his soul has 'decayed' and he's turned to darkness.

Everything makes sense except for "The Siege". Can't wrap my head around how The Decay might be referred to as a siege. Perhaps we could point fingers at specific creatures/people who were "The Siege"?

I'm trying to put bits and pieces together of what Ensa's items could mean/Ensa's role in Gavel's lore.

It's a theory because it wasn't proven yet
    ________________________________
Well, if you think about it, Ensa was most likely a priest. A priest spends most of his time in the church (some even live in them), and the church could have been under siege at the same time the decay was eating that bit of land. The faith could have been Ensa's dedication during the siege

Sorry, I should've wrote more clearly. I'm not sure if The Decay itself makes sense to be referred to as a siege. It says "under siege" so it couldn't be just "a siege of the decay" as in the effects. There must be something else that was the siege, but I still think it has something to do with The Decay.
