I'm Slightly Confused About Dern

Aight, so. When I first joined and got hyped about all this lore (except Bob's), Dern sounded cool, although it was the cliche dark/evil thing. But, some people saying stuff like "Oh shit, fam I found the Dern gate" or "Dern is definetely south of Wynn/Fruma", but isn't Dern just a realm, according to the villagers?

I think dern will be both. From what we know there may be something going on behind the south east border of Wynn due to the dark theme of the graveyard and the updated border of the Mesa...

I imagine dern to be like the light forest, itll be a dark land, but with a portal to a darker realm

 

As far as I know, no lore or npc in game has confirmed or denied whether or not Dern is a realm, province, or something else. I'm also reasonably confident that no in game lore has even mentioned the name Dern (besides the empty book in Llevigar's Library), much less linked information to the nebulous place.

Objectively we know nothing about Dern (assuming my above assumptions are right), but speculation based on hints from outside of the game and thematically similar in game hints is still fun.

 

I don't know where people get this from, dern is a far away province and we assume that the dark realm has its portal there.

 

If there's any facts to actually give hints to Dern's geography. Do you guys think it's like a wasteland kind of like the age of ancients from DS, A lust place, but just extremely dark and evil like @Snerp said, or maybe like an age of dark from DS3 where there's a semi-stable society, but just fucked up?

All we know is
Dark

 

I heard a couple of theories along the years.
1) dern is a province in a giant cave (will explain the darkness)
2) dern is a skylands type place (I'm talking like the vanilla sky biome)
3) its just a ruined province with darkness taking over everything (so a black grey color scheme)
4) its a realm and thus you get to it through a portal so its the dark realm itself

 

What if Dern is a realm where all the current provinces have been mirrored?

By mirrored, I mean like opposited. Nesaak would be MH, MH would be FH, FH would be MH. 3ft gnomes would be 6ft black men. And maybe Cinfras would actually be useful.

 

that's opposite not mirrored, and its half opposite.
if right now you don't have emeralds in a half opposite world you would have emeralds, in a complete opposite you would have emeralds but economy will work like a golf game, the less you have the more its worth

I believe Dern is a dark province with a portal to a small realm where the eye is located.
