What Causes The Decay In Gavel

I guess that makes sense, though I still find it a bit odd that other species don't seem to affect it as much. Also, I assume it's not really explained why the decay also caused the mountains to appear in the Canyon of the Lost?

Mmm, the decay didn't cause mountains to appear. Supposedly, the realms war caused the islands of Ahmsord to spread apart, the molten heights to erupt, corruption in Wynn to Occur, and probably has to do with the origins of the decay.

I thought it was mentioned the decay or whatever caused the formation of the canyon of the Lost in Aldorei Part II.

Realms war, not decay... But, @SPYROHAWK, that also would mean that the Realms War is the cause of the decay, no? So the worm must be tied to the war.

Some food for thought before I try and post what I think about all this: Is the Decay caused by an absence of Light, or the presence of Dark? If it were caused by an absence of Light, then Wynn would be decayed as well, since neither Light nor Dark are considered present in Wynn, as Wynn is considered to be in the "middle," according to Heliorion. It doesn't make sense if the Decay is simply caused by Light fading.

 

The dragon says "I know it wasn't your people who are to blame. But you had your part in the cataclysm."

I think this refers to the fact that the purity of the races in Gavel began to go away, resulting in the Realm of Light weakening, and then slowly light fading as the corruption, decay, islands of ahmsord, and all other events associated with the cataclysm occured.

Well, the realm of light is directly tied to gavel. As light in the realm of light fades, life in Gavel fades. Absence of life = decay.

 

That would make sense, but the only reason it has ties with Gavel at all is because the Portal to the ROL is in Gavel, and because Gavel was its biggest source of good deed power. With those being the only ties it really has (unless I missed some), it doesn't make sense for the absence of Light to affect Gavel that severely.

 

I think we are all forgetting a critical detail from Memory Paranoia. Durong the scene when Mr. Caritat is chanting demonic hymns, he says something along the lines of, "He who started the war shall break through a weak point between the realms. He will sow the seeds of destruction and pain in the land of trade." So this could be three things: 1. The Eye 2. The demon Narageth from Eye of the Storm or 3. Some other demonic/dark entity that we haven't heard of yet.

You're probably right, but I felt there might be a possibility since he is a powerful demon that can cause the effects of corruption and is "temporarily" sealed away bc he can't be killed

I thought Gavel as well, @Bethjerry thought it might be Wynn. Ugh, this is going to bother me... I want to know what caused the decay.. Obviously has to do with the realm wars, but if I don't know every detail I get paranoid. o.o
