"Well, he's often too busy to go seek you out. Besides, we can't even track you. No sense wading through enemy grounds to file a complaint."

 

"I asked him how the armor was holding up, and he didn't have any complaints. That's my point."

 

Ali looks like she feels betrayed.
"B-bring me home and n-never come again." She sobs.

"You asked how it was holding up. It was holding up just fine."

 

"Look, I'm really sorry we couldn't warn you, Ali. Since we know it's you, though, you're still entitled to those three deeds from us." I say, apologetic.

Onyx hugs Ali, concerned.

 

"Actually, I asked how the armor's been serving him, and he hesitantly said fine, so I questioned if someone's wrong with it, to which he said no."
I recount.
"What makes it hard to climb with, by the way?"

 

Ali just hugs Onyx back, crying.

"The rigidity at a few locations along the arms. Plus, the armor has been serving him fine. There isn't anything wrong with it."

 

"Is it impossible to climb with, or just a nuisance?"

 

"Nuisance on easy climbs, impossible on more difficult ones."

 

"I should be able to get that fixed."

 

"Well... in a few days, that is."

 

"Did Katie apologise to her?" Shadow Stephanie asks me quietly.

"Apparently." I respond quietly.

"What do we do? We need their trust." Shadow Stephanie asks me quietly.

"I don't know. Did something go wrong with the freeing of mind control?" I ask quietly.

"No idea. Guards just said she was clean." Shadow Stephanie responds quietly.

 

"M-mind control? You thought I was my sister?! SHE'S THE ONE WHO KNOCKED ME OUT AND STOLE THE CONTRACTS!" Ali yells, flustered as she hugs Onyx a bit tighter.

 

"True, he won't be back until a while."

 

"We know, we just weren't sure if you'd fallen under the influence of it too. Did something go wrong when you were held in a near death state? We asked for it to be done as painless as possible, so it'd be like falling asleep." I ask.

 

"It was done with more pain than I've ever felt in my life!" She wails.

"Which leaves us. Here. Until another notices me missing and assumes my place. Waiting and watching."

 

"What did they do to you? That shouldn't have been the case at all." Shadow Stephanie asks, surprised.

 

"I almost want to show you, but showing you the exact place would alter your perception on me greatly. All of yours, in fact."

 

"Shot out my heart... d-do you know how it f-feels to be conscious to w-watch your life drain o-out of you? M-my legs wouldn't work, t-then my arms, a-and then everything finally started t-to go d-dark..."

"I think you're setting us up to fail. The mention of that alone sparks our curiosity."

 

"Holy fucking shit." Shadow Stephanie curses, shocked.

"I need to talk to the people I ordered. There is no way that should have happened at all." I say, shocked and angry as I storm out the room.

Shadow Stephanie walks over to Ali, sitting beside her, "I'm so sorry to hear that, Ali. I can assure you neither Aj or I ordered your heart to be shot out. Information clearly wasn't handled correctly. We never wanted to ever put you in any pain."

Onyx hugs Ali tighter.

 

Ali turns away from Shadow Stephanie as she keeps crying and hugging Onyx.
