"I understand, but... if all of these portals were opened to us for a reason, we need to associate in order to figure out why."

The creature seems annoyed.
"Touch the machine."

 

The elite does as asked, though the machine can't detect her touch.

 

The creature clears their mind, meditating.

 

I continue to think.
"What about that last tribe? Maybe we can do something with them..."

 

"Am I free to take the crystal?" The elite asks.

 

"Perhaps. We could ask them the basics of this world; we already have a baseline of trust between ourselves."

"No." They say, still meditating.

 

"Why not? I have done as you asked, let you study me. If you are not holding up your end of the bargain, then we will be left at another stalemate." The elite asks, annoyed.

 

"How? We've never even seen them."

 

"I mean, the ones we've already worked with."

"I said you would be released upon study with sufficiently acceptable results. You've given me nothing, thus you will stay."

 

The elite sighs, sitting down and watching the crystal.

 

"We could do that, but I'm talking about the tribe we haven't seen yet. They're called the Akli'il tribe."

 

The crystal just remains, floating there.

The creature seems frustrated.
"You are removing yourself upon contact with my devices. You will not leave until I get conclusive data!"

"We may be able to talk to them, too. Whatever works, most likely."

 

"Should we split up? You go to the newer guys, I ask around at Lizard Fellow's tribe?"

 

"I am not." The elite says honestly.

 

"Sure. Meet back up at the portal, and we can continue here another time now that we know where it is?" Rineth asks to confirm.

"I don't care what you are or aren't doing. There's a reason I didn't trust your word, apparently!"

 

"Do what you wish to examine me, but I am not removing myself." The elite says passively.

 

"Miss, that's going to involve stabbing you at this point." They say, putting a needle into her wrist.

 

The needle pierces the skin, before falling through.

The elite tears her left arm off, blood spilling out of it, before she grows another one and offers the old one to the creature.

 

The creature takes the old arm and waits to see when it disappears.

"What species are you?"

 

The arm sort of melts away as soon as the creature touches it, like it never was there in the first place. The creature doesn't even feel the arm as it touches it.

"Shadow, upper high tier." The elite says.
