I feel like this issue ties back to that one about compulsory organ donation after death (which I said no to).

I saw a question on Quora a few weeks ago - "Should those executed by the death penalty have their organs donated to hospitals who need them?". I originally thought "hey, that's not a bad idea!". The answer which really changed my mind about a lot of things, gave this startling possibility.

- Judges may be a lot quicker to sentence capital punishment; what if his daughter needs a liver transplant, and this robber happens to have just the right kind? The crime wasn't something that could necessitate the death penalty, but he could change that...

Having the dearth penalty, and organ donations, paints a very disturbing picture of having benefits for taking another human's life. I want nothing to do with that.

 

Yeah... The death penalty isn't a good idea in practice.

I was saying yes to:

I didn't actually expect it to be as fun as it is (I mostly joined because wanted to be able to do something pertaining to politics (even a simulation) even though I lack the charisma for it irl)

You have 1 democracy, 3 democratic socialists with one practicing stalism, 1 queendom, 1 dictatorship, and 1 "civil rights lovefest"... no republics.

 

But Free Speech is good
I think doing this will help Civil Rights, which has actually gone down quite a bit.
Since you're still holding strong to your position, we'll have to wait and see what ToL and Relja think of it.

The Issue
In response to increasing costs of running state prisons, several government advisors have suggested allowing the private sector to play a greater role in managing Corkus’s correctional facilities.

The Debate

1. “Corkus’s prisons are in a ghastly state,” says Sydney Le Carré, representative for several large businesses. “The state now pays a fortune in Emeralds each day for every prisoner. My clients will be able to operate the prisons more efficiently and charge the state far less than they’re having to pay now. With our help, those in jail will be able to get themselves jobs to do and the government can imprison as many people as they like!”
   
   
   
2. “This is just another scheme by multinational corporations to turn our great nation into a corporate dictatorship!” claims Birgitta Santos, of the Social Justice League of Corkus. “Just say NO to privatised prisons. We should be closing all jails down so we can begin focusing on rehabilitation, anyway!”
   
   
   
3. “Private prisons?! Rehabilitation?! How utterly ridiculous!” exclaims Ganondorf Armstrong, Corkus’s toughest police officer. “Both of these proposals will simply waste resources on the scum of society. I say that we should summarily execute all violent criminals and give their property to their victims.”

Assuming of course that they have been proven guilty beyond doubt, and there is no further investigation possible, at any point in time, that could prove otherwise
Also the crime would have to be sufficiently bad for this to be considered an option in the slightest, in 99% of cases skip to the last part of what I'm saying here

Also the property should be given the the State to be used for state parks, or setting up orphanages / ways to help anyone who is struggling

If what I said earlier isn't possible, then I'd suggest having a split prison and rehabilitation set up
Rehabilitate if the person has never committed crimes, if they have then attempt it, if it goes poorly prison is a back up, however it shouldn't be run solely by large businesses, government should regulate it rather heavily to ensure the businesses aren't abusing any power that it gives them

 

What about @Kawaii__Turtle Should they saw how they feel about the death penalty? (Even though I think they side with you).

 

If it is utterly impossible for the person to be proven to be not guilty + the crime was bad enough, then I'd say it's an option, but should only rarely be used (will edit into previous post)

 

Ummm.... no. No way. Execute all prisoners? Wtf?

 

@Endertricity I vote against the death sentence, it may be more efficient economy-wise but it simply seems inhumane for me (coming from a plant lol), it is in the humans nature to make mistakes and when talking about death Penalties you always think of the mass-murdering maniac, but what about the others? What about the normal People who simply made a bad choice in their life, either by stupidity or bad circumstances (and stupidity).

Also why have Democracy if you can have communism?

 

If it was just death penalty or not, I would be on the same side as you, but it's a bit more complicated than that. #1 means letting democracy run its course, even if that means having people vote for the death penalty. #2 would mean setting a standard of censorship by not even letting them vote for it... I don't want that.
