"No, you're the only one. Which is why I want to keep you alive. And ideally, with me." She says, content. "It's nothing romantic, it's more of a pride thing. Plus, you'd get all the perks of being one of my generals without having to work like one!"

 

"Do I?"
There's a few moments of silence.
"I don't think I'd want to be a general. There's too many people looking up to you, and you're still responsible for like... thousands of people. You also can't really be nice."

 

I attempt to resurrect the skeleton.

 

Xlentia seems hurt.
"If you think I'm not nice, I can still toss you back to the other planet from here." She says, blunt. "I'm only mean to those who assume I'm mean. Plus, I said you'd get the perks without needing to be a general."

There's not enough. The ritual fails entirely.

 

"I don't think you're not nice! Are you a general?"

 

"Good. And I'm a goddess. I'm just saying, if you promised to stick around with me, you'd get all the stuff my generals do, but you wouldn't need to do their jobs." She says, offering again.

 

Crystal pauses, unsure.
"...I'll think about it."

 

Xlentia seems cross, but nods.
"I shouldn't be pushy about it. Just because you're a mortal doesn't mean I can ignore your poor past experiences with dragons."

 

"It wasn't a poor past experience. It was just..."
Crystal argues, but falls short on a different word to describe it.

 

"Traumatic? Against your will?" Xlentia offers, trying to help.

 

"No. Not really. He took me off my island 'cause he thought I was just a pretty rock, then I just walked out while he were sleeping. It's just... I never heard from my creator since then. I like to think he said goodbye, but I'm not really sure."

 

"You think maybe your creator hasn't given up on you either? You could just be looking for each other still."

 

"Do you think he might've lost me? I never actually saw him, I just heard him. Maybe it was something with that island?"
Crystal inquires, curious.

 

"By what you describe, it's like you were stolen and then he went off to look for you. I don't know, I was still mind controlled back then." Xlentia sighs.

 

"Who do you think you were controlled by after you woke up from the battle?"
Crystal asks, curious.

 

"Who else would try to control a goddess?" Xlentia says before pausing, realizing that the answer would be anyone who ever had lust for power.

 

"Maybe someone who knew you were weak at the time? Did it feel different from the Hive Master, or something?"

 

I shake my head and go back to look at some texts.

 

"The problem is, those memories fade with the control. Almost, not like they're trying to directly control me, but change my personality."

There's only one deciphered text, but it just seems to be an election census.
The old king seems to have been extremely popular with most of his people, seeing as there's a single no vote.

 

"Oh, like, to make you harsher?"
