This build is perfectly up to date, I'll add a disclaimer and update the build if some item gets changed radically.

Are there any good alternatives for Nirvana to go with this build? I don't have a spare master catalyst, and I've never beaten the Orange Wybel, so Hive Master and Slider and out of the question.

The basic concept is high int, agility, the water armor special concentration (please use tier 6 powders, Tier IV=1%, Tier V=3%, tier VI=5% concentration bonus) and good elemental defense.
Let's get into the build, shall we?

The whole build is made around this centerpiece: Boreal-Patterned Aegis. It was left over from my old Weathered build, and I took a closer look at the stats. The elemental defenses are super easy to build around. Then I saw the 15% water damage and I was like HOLY SHIT I'M USING THIS.
It also gives nice mana regen and good walk speed.

Use 2x tier 6 water powders on it.

The next thing you want is Capricorn. Look for 2/4s mana regen, good %spell and int+agi. Raw spell damage is a nice bonus, but doesn't make a huge difference. The walk speed is irrelevant.

Put 2 tier 6 waters to boost your concentration and one tier 5-6 earth powder on it to counter some of the negative earth defense.

Next you're going to have to make a choise.
- For more agility and slightly more damage on the first spins, use Cumulonimbus. It gives loads of spell damage, some defenses and water damage.
- For more defenses and higher health with higher elemental defense (way higher against fire) but less agility, use Anima-Infused Helmet. It gives almost the same damage, but makes you way more fire, water and thunder resistant. It also adds to your reflection nicely.
- If you prefer balance, use Morph-Stardust. The extra strength it gives you adds considerable damage, but not as high as Cumulo or Anima. The extra 2/4s mana is welcome.
This option will allow you to have high health with almost as high agility as you'd have with Cumulo, with the loss of some damage and some utility (And uniqueness. And respect.). You know how it looks like, no pic needed.

Put 2x tier 6 waters on each helmet it to boost concentration.

The finisher for the armor pieces is Vaward. No downsides, more spell damage, extremely crucial skill points, high health. Nothing to explain there.

Use 2x tier 6 waters and one tier 5-6 earth.

For accessories we're going to use 2x Concentration for mana, Nebulous for spell damage, elemental defense and health and Calming Torc for water damage and int. Replace Nebulous with Squid Anklet or Tidal if you chose Cumulonimbus as your helmet.

The approximate skill points with all gear on (will vary depending on your IDs):
- With Anima-Infused Helmet: 10/33/100+40/33/66
- With Cumulonimbus: 0/33/100+40/0/99
- With a decent Morph Stardust: 28/33/100+40/28/92

Nirvana is the weapon, obviously. (Hive Infused with water powders is an ok alternative for poor people, ty @The Shoutbox for the suggestion )
In my personal opinion, it is the best mythic dagger out there. And yes I've used every single one of them. It is extremely good in PvE, and does really well in PvP as well.
I get min 5k spin damage with mine (you can get even higher because the spell damage% on mine is not maxed at all). That sounds bad doesn't it?
Well, with concentration using the powders you see above, the damage builds up to 10k when I keep on casting things. Without using Curse.
10k spammable spins with next to infinite mana are stupidly good.
The max spin damage with curse and concentration is roughly 16k.

Again, use tier 6 water powders on it. The damage increase is huge from tiers 4 and 5 to 6.

EDIT.
@Kraby taught me a little thing about Nirvana.
The damage it does is actually more, because only the water damage is visible. The other damage that gets converted to thunder, air and earth damage from spells AND the raw spell damage are invisible, but they are still there. This applies to all weapons that have only elemental damage.
In practise this means every single 10k spin with Nirvana does roughly 12k damage.

As I already mentoined, I'm extremely proud of this build. Every little piece fits together perfectly; the only thing it is missing is raw health regen. Buy some health regen potions and you're good to go soloing things like the Orange Wybel.
I also recently managed to solo Qira using the Cumulonimbus-variation of this build, which was actually not too hard at all. Get health potions, watch out for the charging spider. Vanish when you get caught in Qira's web. Use curse whenever ready, spam 3x spin-> smokebomb, repeat. Keep on moving.
Nirvana can eat though Qira's elemental defense.

Actual you are wrong about one thing, you said and i quote "the other damage gets converted to thunder, air and earth" this is wrong, your spells only convert neutral damage to elem dmg. Your damage is about what it says it is in game, besides raw spell dmg. Witch is a glitch.

It does only effect neutral. So yes mint you are correct. And battle is incorrect :(
