"So, just, 'an illegitimate child' works?"

 

"That's the definition she uses, yes."

 

"That's quite the convincing illusion you have there. How much you pay them to act for you?" The captain asks, disbelieving.

 

"This much." Xlentia says, opening a visual-only portal to her gold stash, Linoa there.
"Hey, Xlentia, the hell did you go?"
"I'm a bit busy right now."
"I TOLD YOU JUST REST DAMNIT STOP WORRYING SO MUCHABOUT THE SHADOW KING'S FRIENDS!" Linoa half-screams as Xlentia slams shut the portal.

"...Okay, I pay them in protection. Not my gold bed. I like my bed the way it is." She admits.

 

"Okay! Thanks!"
Crystal says as he starts to leave.
"Crystal, wait."
He stops.
"What?"
I don't respond and turn to Emerald.
"Do you know if we have any way to re-contact Abigail? We still need her for that map if there's no one else."

 

"She's at home last time I heard. Best talk to Aj about getting in touch."

 

The captain laughs.

"You really went the extra mile, didn't you? Here, have some real money for your effort." The captain says, throwing Xlentia a gold dubloon.

"Why don't you just admit you tried to lie and failed, you kidnapped my daughter, brought her back to me and go off on your merry way." The captain says, serious.

 

"Don't know where he is, either. Actually, he might be at his palace, but I'm not magic, so I don't really know how to get there."

 

The dubloon splashes into the water.
"Okay. Illusion this."

Xlentia grabs a human head-sized gold coin out of a portal and places it on the deck of the boat, it sinking a foot lower than normal into the water.
"Also, you can't hurt me if you just open fire with toy launchers. Which you should teach my servants how to make because I need more passtimes."

"Portal down near the library entrance. Leads to the Shadow Palace." Emerald says.

 

"Do you take me for an idiot?" The captain says, serious and fed up.

 

"You don't want the gift? Okay." Xlentia says, servants returning as she takes the gold back.

"Hey Gaia, Katie's parents are saying I'm fake. If I give you another dragon ride will you come help me convince her?" Xlentia asks telepathically.

 

"Thanks."
I turn to Crystal as I leave.
"Are you coming?"
Crystal thinks for a moment.
"Sure! I've never seen the palace either, so it'll be cool!"
"Alright. Let's go, then."
Crystal, hearing the location, heads off in front of me, and I lag behind, turning to Emerald.
"Thanks again."
I smile, then follow Crystal.

 

"Ahahaha, gift? You think compacted lead painted gold is a gift?" The captain asks, laughing, "Leave."


"Deal!" Gaia says excitedly.

 

She nods.

Crystal and Thirteen approach the gates of the Shadow Palace, neither familiar with the guards.

"Never seen likes of you round here before," One of the guards by the Shadow Palace gates says, "You got an invitation to see the queen or visit the palace?"

 

"Cut it, melt it, test its properties before you judge it. This coin alone is worth half your lifetime pillagings. I only know because I looked at your house." Xlentia says, putting it back. "I am a dragon with a hoard bigger than your dreams and your boldness. I use compressed gold so I don't have to keep expanding my vault every other year."

"Thanks, Gaia!" Xlentia says happily.

 

"No, not exactly..."
"Is the king not here?"

 

"I guess you didn't hear me the first time over your inflated ego," the captain says, "Leave."

"His majesty is currently away on personal matters. The queen is still available to talk to, however," The guard explains, "If you want to arrange a meeting, it'll be 10 diamond and a letter explaining why."

 

"If you can make me leave before Gaia comes, I'll never bother you again. If you can't, then there may be a very real claw in your ship, unless your daughter convinces me that I should take orders from a nonbeliever."

 

Crystal thinks while I take the talking lead.
"Would the queen know where he is? And it's still that amount for people the king knows?"
