Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Reminds me of Xlentia." Linoa laughs. "Anyhow, I'm going to go check on Katie. Why else might she stay home longer than normal?"

 

"She might be waiting to see her parents again. Katie's never really seen much of them, she says they're usually away exploring the ocean and rarely come home to check up on her." Stephanie says.

 

"Sounds like the life of a pirate. I'm surprised someone as sweet as Katie came from people in a life as rough as that. They should talk to Xephyr sometime, she's got some good tales of less legal days."

 

"I think Katie did mention something about her parents being pretty ruthless pirates," Stephanie says, thinking back, "I think Katie's sweetness is primarily because she hasn't had much interaction with her parents. That, or she's hiding something sinister behind that sweet demeanour of hers."

 

"Regardless, I should let Katie know that you're alive and well. I'll push my luck if need be." Linoa says. "See you in the Void Palace once you rest up and recover?"

 

"I suppose so." Stephanie says, shrugging.

 

Linoa opens and steps through a portal.

Appearing in front of Katie's front door, Linoa looks for how much of the house is underwater as she knocks hard or rings a doorbell, checking for a ship nearby.

 

It seems the entire house, which appears to be more of a palace, is completely submerged. The palace itself appears to be fairly free of water, however.

There aren't any ships visible anywhere nearby, and after a short while, Katie answers the door. Katie's hair seems to be a tangled mess of knots, and dark bags lie under her eyes.

"O-Oh...hey L-Linoa." Katie says sleepily, yawning, her eyes half open.

 

"Good evening, sleepyhead!" Linoa chuckles. "Just wanted to let you know that Stephanie has been found and is doing okay now."

 

"Oh, oook. W-Would you like to come in?" Katie asks, dozing off slightly before jolting back awake.

 

"Sure. Have you been asleep all day?" Linoa asks, helping prop Katie up.

 

"H-Hardly...I've barellly been able t-to get any sleep recen..tly." Katie says tiredly, feeling heavy on Linoa.

 

"What's wrong?" Linoa asks worried, using her staff to keep Katie upright.

 

"I-I've been having pretty hooorible nightmares recently," Katie says, rubbing her eyes and yawning, "I've alwayys woken up in the n-night, and never been able to...to...go back to sleep."

 

"Like what?" Linoa asks, checking for traces of shadows.

 

"W-Well, in my last nightmare, there were these g-giant birds swooping down and taking people away, and I tried to get away, b-but one of them pecked me in half, and then I was made into birdfeed for the giant birds. A-And then I woke up." Katie explains.

There don't seem to be any Shadows around, not the living kind, at least.

 

"I'll stay with you tonight. If anything's messing with you, it won't for long." Linoa says bluntly.
"Where's your bedroom?"

 

"It's upstairs. Follow me." Katie says, walking through the front room of her house and bumping into a wall sleepily. Two doors reside to the left and right of the room, presumably leading to other rooms in the lower floors. A staircase lies at the back of the room, which looks like it only goes up one floor.

 

Linoa follows Katie, guiding her away from walls and opening any doors neccesary.

 

Katie goes up the staircase, another staircase on the next floor right next to it. A large pair of doors reside at the end of the room on the first floor, yet Katie turns around and walks past the staircase, taking a corner which leads to a door adorned with seashells, pretty coloured stones and smooth bits of glass. The name 'Katie' is written sloppily on a piece of driftwood hanging on the door, presumably written when Katie was very young.
