[rp] Small Beginnings - [9/9] Players - Applications Closed

The man's eyes widen, and he slowly starts backing away.
His eyes narrow, as he seems to realize something. He pulls out a dagger and charges you.
As he comes closer, you drop to a crouch and stab upward with your blade. It grazes the skin of his left arm.
You swing your sword to the left (your left) and the blade bites into his flesh.
His eyes (once again) widen, and he makes a halfhearted attempt to strike you with his dagger. You grab his arm and push it to the side.
You withdraw your sword, and wipe it on his shirt. You then retrieve your coin purse. As you do that, you notice a crumpled piece of parchment in the man's hand.
You pull it out.
On it is a crude drawing of you, with the words bring him to me. If he does not comply, use the dagger that I gave you, but do not kill him. Then, return to Almuj, in the slums. -N
You pick up the dagger. It does seem to have a sort of substance on it. Probably some sort of paralyzing agent. You clip it to your belt. It might come in handy later.
You swing yourself down from the roof and head into the bar, where you buy a couple of healing potions.
You think to yourself. There are a few ways to get to Almuj. You could take a caravan, but it doesn't seem like there will be many going out right after a large-scale attack by the corrupted. You could also take a horse, but you don't have enough money to buy one. Or you could walk. But that's dangerous.
There might be an attachment of soldiers coming, as you're sure the King of Ragni will have heard of the attack. You could steal one of their horses or convince some of them to come to Almuj. You could also just steal a horse from the stables (every city/town has a stable). If you walk, you'll need a lot of other things, like food... You frown. You'll need food anyways.
You walk out of the bar, pondering these things.

 

"I'm sure that the troops will help one of their fellow comrades to Almuj." Frederick says, going to buy the cheapest food he can get.

 

You walk into the bar, and buy some food and drink for 2 emeralds. You settle down to wait.

Malhirrm (I think his name was) holds his sword in front of him.
You frown. You want to get inside of his reach. You draw your dagger (you figure you can wield your katana with 1 hand for a short period of time).
You then stand, left foot forwards, waiting for the corrupted to charge.
He does.
He runs across the hill (you are about even now), holding his sword to his side. When he reaches you, he lunges, planting his right foot into the ground. You deflect his blade with your dagger, letting it slide past you, and slam your blade into his chest.
Malhirrm reels back, and you kick him in the knee.
He falls, then starts rolling down the hill, already dead.
You walk down the hill, plant your foot on his chest, and pull your sword out. You wipe it on the grass.
You look up, back to where your companions are. It seems that they've done away with the other enemies.
You walk up to them.
"Easy," you chuckle.
Samuel and Damien also smile.
Geoffry frowns, and rubs his chin. "The corrupted you fought - it was different, right? Like the one you fought back in Nemract."
You nod.
"More intelligent, maybe. Or skilled in fighting," you tell him.
Geoffry nods, thoughtfully. "That might've been one of the original corrupted."
"Mhmm," Samuel interjects. "I read a book on them, once. It's a long story. They described the original corrupted to be... stronger, faster, y'know, that sorta thing. Amalgamations of regular monsters. Like how anyone turned into a corrupted now would be a zombie or a skeleton.. but these ones are different."
Geoffry nods assent (again). "I remember hearing something like that."
"So wait," Damien says. "These corrupted are special, right? So why would they turn up in a routine patrol?"
"There's gotta be a reason," the messenger says (I almost forgot about this guy).
You turn to him. "Are there normally corrupted in the Nivla?" you ask.
"No.. not really. The last time there were a lot of corrupted in the Nivla was when they were massing for an attack," he replies.
"An attack," Geoffry murmurs.
You glance at your companions.
"In we go?" you ask.
"In we go."

you can pretty much choose how you want to navigate the Nivla.

Also, as I consider all players (and NPCs) to have a dagger on them (I mean... it's a harsh world), you might think of upgrading your dagger (like put a poison on it) or get yourself a wakizashi or tantō instead. and still have a dagger.

 

Frederick waits for the soldiers to arrive.

 

Oh, finally! Geez. Nah, I'm kidding. Take your time.

"Hmm... An attack..." I say. "We'll stay off the main trails. Stealth would be key here. We need to find out what's happened and, if we learn of an attack, warn the king."

(Yeah, I'll try to get a Wakizashi. Apparently people have dual-wielded Katana and Wakizashi, and there are fighting styles based off of it. You don't use two katanas, though.)

 

ok you can get a wakizashi once you're in ragni (im not going to just magic one up for you).

You walk into the forest, where the corrupted patrol first appeared. Soon after, you find a trail - more of a path made with flattened down grass. You gesture for your companions to move to either side of the path.
After an hour of walking, you start to smell wood smoke. You mention it to Damien. He nods, and tells the rest of the group.
You proceed more slowly after that.
After a half and hour, you start to hear the hum of voices. You walk further.
Suddenly, you burst into a clearing. You drop to your belly and look at the scene before you.
There are hundreds of tents, fires, and all manner of other things strewn about... along with.. you frown..
Thousands of corrupted. You see ones that look like the one you fought earlier today, as well as ones who look like the one you fought in Nemract, and many more that look somewhat similar. You also see many zombies and skeletons. You also see what could be horses. They have sharp faces and you can see their ribs. Even when they step into the sunlight they seem to stay in shadow.
You look closer. It's obviously an army camp, and you can see a couple of blacksmiths and drilling fields too.
Samuel crawls up to you.
"Holy shit," he breathes.
You nod.
You see that your companions have also seen this.
You move back, further away from the camp.
"What do we do?" Damien asks.

If ya wanna take like a force of other elite corrupted to support the ones in the Nivla or something like that you can

 

"Okay, thousands of trained corrupted against us... This will not go well at all. They probably have some corrupted like the one we fought back there. I vote we go warn the Ragni king, and maybe we'll get assistance from the Ragni army..."

 

The messenger nods. "We wouldn't want to be blundering in these woods, though. It's dark and cramped in here. Also," he adds, "we're severely outnumbered. It would be better to confront the corrupted at Ragni."
You see the sense in his words.

ok ima wait for @LoyalFlush to respond.

 

"Agreed. Quietly now..."
I begin to back away from the camp.

You turn back to the coastal trail, continuing on your way to Ragni.

I think I'll wait until some other things happen before your storyline goes further.

A few days later, you hear a commotion outside. The soldiers have arrived.
You step out of the bar (it's about lunchtime) and approach the Captain of the soldiers.
"What do you want?" He asks gruffly.

 

Frederick salutes the captain.
"I need to travel to Almuj, sir."

 

Do you want to be dead or alive? Make up your mind ffs!

 

He nods.
"We're goin' there. We're short on horses though. Why should we take you with us?"
