Katie gets onto Linoa's staff, looking at the desert worryingly.

"Is it hot at the cafe?" Katie asks nervously.

 

Katie, argh.

"No, everything's underground. It's kept a pleasant temperature with torches." Linoa explains, zipping into the desert before getting off in what seems to be the middle of nowhere.
"Here it is. Their doors are really cool." She says.

 

Katie steps off onto the sand, before immediately getting back onto Linoa's staff, tears in her eyes and the bottoms of her feet bright red.

"H-How do you get in?" Katie asks, pained expression on her face.

 

"You stand on the sand and tap your foot. Here." Linoa says, offering Katie sandals and a tight fitting robe.
"That'll keep the sand off." She says.
As Linoa taps her foot, she's sucked quickly into the sand, the ground looking like she was never there.

 

Katie puts the sandals and robe on, before nervously stepping onto the sand and tapping her foot.

 

She's sucked underground, the robe preventing every grain of sand from getting on her as she drops into a mildly lit cafe, a weapon rack with Linoa's staff at the door.
A hound headed humanoid smiles as Katie enters.
"Welcome to the Shifting Sands Cafe."

 

Katie stands and shakes for a moment, unsure if what to make of what just happened.

"Uhm, y-you too." Katie says nervously, confused.

 

The Anubis looks at her strangely.
"Are you okay, Miss? You must be new here if the doors are getting to you."
"Since the Cataclysm destroyed everything on the surface, the Anubi had to use solar and earth magic to survive underground." Linoa explains.

 

"I-I'm ok, I think." Katie says nervously.

Katie brushes herself off, before nervously heading into the cafe, hugging her double trident closely.

 

The Anubis seems terrified.
"U-uhm, miss? Could you please leave your weapon at the entryway?"

 

"D-Do I have to? It's a precious family weapon, I don't want anyone to steal it." Katie asks nervously.

 

"Each weapon is given a unique lock upon placing it in any of our structures. Anyone else who tries to grab it simply cannot; they phase right through it." The waitress says, trying to stay calm.

 

Katie nervously places her double trident on the weapon rack, looking even more scared without it.

 

As she puts her trident on the rack, a small pair of spectral chain links appear around her wrist and her trident. Linoa's hand phases straight through her trident to demonstrate the security.
"It's okay, Miss. I don't bite. Would you like some water to... uh... calm down a bit?" The waitress offers, concerned with Katie's fear.

 

"Y-Yes please." Katie says fearfully, almost begging.

 

The waitress goes into the back, and Linoa helps Katie to a table.
"So, the sand hurts you, but the whole place hs a wooden frame, you're safe here. They made the robes to make sure those who don't like the sand, don't get sand on them." Linoa says, trying to comfort Katie.

 

"It's not the sand, it's the heat within the sand..." Katie says sadly, "I'm fine with sand itself."

 

Linoa seems confused.
"It's not very warm down here... besides, those robes are like a heat barrier anyways."

 

"I meant on the surface..." Katie says, embarrassed.

 

"Ah... well, you have sandals now, plus I bet we can buy a parasol in one of the shops. Just... be less scared of the doors. That sand is kept a different temperature so others can identify the doors."
