    So on the one hand, the official description given by Salted for the gameplay update said it was boosted by being close to an enemy, but the powder says that dodging gives a short boost for a short time. So how does it work?

    "Dodge" is just the name of the special. The effect is as Salted said, where it cumulatively boosts your damage the closer you are to an enemy, but is reset the moment you take damage or move too far away from an enemy.

    I think it says when you give the effect to a piece of armor. I don't know the numbers offhand, but you have to be fairly close.
