"Should we try getting her?"
I ask, sympathetic.

 

"...I just want at least Stephanie to forgive me." He utters, dodging the question.

"Please. I... w-want to apologize to her."

 

There's a long pause.

"H-Hello? Who is this?" Stephanie's voice asks, connection not exactly strong.

 

"S-stephanie? This is R-rineth... I'm so sorry, I should've gone in the portal with you and taken the hit for you, j-just please... forgive me. A-and I wanted to know if you and your friends would s-still have me for your travels..."

 

"R-Rineth? Of course I forgive you! I'd rather have taken the hit, because you mean so much to us. You're one of the few people who had a close connection to Ihra, and as much as I couldn't say it, I was glad you were staying behind; I wouldn't want you to get in harms way. Now Ihra's gone, the whole group needs someone like you. I'd love it it you kept travelling with us, you've been with us all this time anyway!" Stephanie responds happily, clearly happy to hear Rineth's voice again.

"Hold on, I want to try something. I-I'm not sure if it will work." Stephanie says, connection weakening. Rineth can very lightly feel a weak telekinetic hug.

 

"I-it worked... thank you..." He utters, obviously completely scatterbrained at the moment.
"I'm glad I-I waited a little longer, hoping one of you'd still want to bring me along..."

 

"I think the others still want to travel with you, that was the plan really. Last I saw of them though, they were recovering at the Shadow Palace. I-I don't know where I am, but if you can find a way into the Realm of Shadows you should be able to find Aj and the others." Stephanie says, connection regaining a bit of strength.

 

"I... okay. I'll try to find them, I guess." Rineth says, seeming a bit less shaky.

"I... talked to Stephanie." Rineth mutters, calming down. "I'm sorry for doubting you."

 

"You don't have to feel bad about anything, Rineth. You've done nothing wrong. I think I have to go now, so...I'll find you and give you a proper hug when I'm...not here." Stephanie says kindly, before sacrificing the connection to give Rineth a slightly stronger telekinetic hug, before she fades.

Rineth can feel the connection to Gaia return.

 

"Thank you, miss Gaia..." He says, calming down.

 

"It's no problem. Stephanie is in the process of being reborn, so you can speak with her again soon." Gaia says, positivity in her tone.

 

Rineth seems to hesitate.
"If you could let the group know I'm ready to go... I just plan to take a nap that isn't pain induced."

 

"I'll see what I can do to get the message through," Gaia says happily, "From what I heard, you're a great friend to Stephanie."

 

"I try to not let those near me down. I just... worry about her in particular."

 

"Why do you worry about her in paricular?" Gaia asks, curious.

 

"She's killed me before." Rineth says bluntly.

 

"R-Really!?" Gaia asks, shocked.

 

"We were ambushed midair. First thing she does is summon a golem and break my spine. If that didn't kill me, the fall sure as hell did."

 

"Wow...I'm sorry to hear you had to endure that." Gaia says sympathetically, sounding hurt herself at the thought of what Rineth had to experience.

 

"On the bright side, I didn't have to suffer through the magma melting my wings for long." He groans.
