Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Y-you're right... forgive me, Mistress..."
Xlentia sighs.
"You are beyond forgiven. I owe you for my life, too."
"T-thank you, but I fear Ihra's friends may n-not..."

He turns to you, desperate.
"Please be honest... will you still have me as a travel companion?"

 

I clearly heard the question, but I seem to ignore it.
"What were you doing?"

 

"G-guarding the portal... I fell asleep after t-the horde stopped coming. S-some healer woke me up, said not to move for a day." He utters.

 

"Do you really need my permission to tag along?"

 

"Yours and everyone else's. Before, I was bound to Ihra. Now, I technically have no role."

 

"Well, all I have to say is that you're not out of this yet, Rineth. We've still got stuff to do."

 

He lets out a sigh of relief.
"This means more than it should."

 

"Just relax, okay? Holding so many lives on your shoulders will only break them."

 

Rineth opens his mouth, hesitates, then closes it.
"You're right. I... I'll be in the bunks if you need me. I'm going to..." He trails off, turning and leaving.

 

"Have a good rest, Rineth."
I say, supporting his leave.

 

You can see him crack a grin as he disappears into the bunk room.

"...Mind me asking what the hell changed in him since I've been down for the count?" Xlentia asks.

 

"Ihra's gone."
I say, looking at Xelentia.
"That's my guess."

 

"This Ihra must've meant a helluva lot to him. Had to if her sacrifice worked. Call it the stupid stuff in stories about friendship 'n crap, but this case sure as hell seems real."

 

"He was her guardian, and a very close companion. A soldier may go into war risking their life every day, and fight beside their friend, but, in the end, they're not ready for the death of the people beside them."

 

Xlentia seems to contemplate something before sighing.
"I think my rest may need to wait, then. Is that truly how mortals feel, even when victorious?" She asks, much more serious than usual.

 

"Nobody really wins in war. And, yes, we mortals hate death."

 

"You have yet to win, and it... seems so bizarre to me. Why hate the inevitable?" She asks, lifting a claw.
Emerald appears from nowhere, listening intently.
"Emerald, there's a note in my chambers. Read it, and do what it says. Now."
Emerald nods before vanishing again.

 

"Because if set variables don't help us, we fear them. We can't effect them, and we don't like that. We're not gods, so with set things, we feel powerless. And that's what we hate."
Pause.
"Speaking for humans, mainly, but many mortals share the same thoughts in that aspect."

 

Xlentia chuckles.
"Nysk wouldn't share that sentiment, but I believe I understand. I hope he too is still okay..." Xlentia trails off.

 

"A friend of yours?"
