"A... what?"
"The fuck do you think that story is getting you?"
"With all the crazy shit happening nowadays, I could buy it."
"First a teenager becoming a god, next some insane half-dragon, followed by a smoldering shipwreck? Hell, my parents must've been serious when they said anything can happen!"

 

"I think I saw that shipwreck you're talking about. There weren't any survivors there, at least, none in the ship." Gaia says happily, offering a small bunch of lavender to the second guard who spoke as a sign of peace.

 

"The metal one that got overrun by hellhounds?" The guard asks, trying to confirm.

The other guard takes the lavender and sighs.
"Ma'am, as long as you can still... you know... make things quick... a god in city limits is, well... kind of a bad omen here."

 

Gaia nods.

"Really? Well...if it would make it seem less of a bad omen, I could heal your diseased and wounded." Gaia says kindly.

 

"Ugly crash, huh. Feel bad for those who bled out. Shit way to go."

"All due respect, it's just an oddity. Whenever a god enters the city, every fifth child just vanishes. We don't know why it happens, where they go, or how it's determined who's chosen and who isn't." The guard explains. "No hard feelings, but we've kind of been trying to avoid that since it happened to my father's generation."

 

"Have you tried setting up ways of tracking children?" Gaia asks, glancing toward the city and looking for any signs of magical flux.

 

The entire city seems to be surrounded in magical oddities. It's thriving despite this.

"Yeah. Trackers, head counts, and the like. But, once it happens, they all just're gone."

 

Gaia thinks for a while.

"Have you ever kept hold of a child who's about to go missing?" Gaia asks curiously.

 

"There's no way to know which ones will go missing, but it has been reported that there are records of children that had existed, birth record and all, but after the god showed themselves, nobody remembered them as an actual person."

 

"Have you tried taking children out of the city before the god arrives? There's a lot of magic around your city..." Gaia says, glancing back at the city.

 

"Most likely. You know, I have some serious suspicious about Aj." I say, pulling out my notebook and flipping to a sketch of Aj fighting Xlentia. "I've always wondered how he got that sword and how he is so powerful."

 

"Ah, that was Tenebrae and Lux's doing," Mortius says, "There was a great war between the Realm of Darkness and the Realm of Light. Tenebrae and Lux hated to see their children fight, so they chose two champions from the Realm of Darkness to win the war for them and end it. As gods of Darkness and Light, they were able to create weapons of both pure darkness and light, a paradox. They granted their champions, now the king and queen of the Realm of Darkness, or as you may know them, Aj and Stephanie, these weapons. With a little divine intervention, the pair were able to win the war between their realms and create peace between the two. The gods let Tenebrae's children keep their weaponry as a thanks, and the pair have used them ever since. Their additional power most likely comes from their status in their realm. It was not Tenebrae who chose them to become the king and queen, but the children themselves. The king and queen of both realms are granted a massive amount of power upon taking the throne, that of possibly thousands of the children."

 

"I see. This is most interesting." I comment, writing down the story.
"I assume it is your first time in this universe then?"

 

"Yes, though I cannot say the same for any alternate selves from alternate timelines." Mortius says calmly, an ominous air around him.

 

"Are there alternate gods of alternate timelines though? Wouldn't that be quite dangerous, for what if someone was able to unite all the gods to go around destroying universes?"

OOC: Looking at some of the first few pages. Didn't know Thirteen can revive.

 

"I believe there are, though transport to alternate universes would be extremely hard. Even so, with the infinite possibilities, there'd be a universe that would cause them to cease to exist upon entry, or prevent them from escape." Mortius says.

 

"Once again, with infinate possibilities, would there not be a universe where they would find an item that allows them to remotely destroy universes?" I say, "Or what if the collective power of all the gods is enough to destroy the universe that can stop them?"

 

"I believe you're beginning to ask questions more suited to Temporum, the God of Time. I do not know the answers to everything." Mortius says respectfully.

 

I nod. "It is always good to not know the answers to everything."

 

"Ignorance is bliss, as the mortals would say." Mortius says calmly.
