"Please, I appreciate it when people wish to clarify things. Mutual understanding is key to cooperation." I reply, checking how much more to walk before the gardens.

 

You seem to just be getting there now.

Ren, unsure of what to say, just remains silent. You figure he's scared to cut the link as he is doing next to anything.

 

"Crystal, let's go to the cockpit."
"Why?"
"N-E, possibly North-East."
"And you think a direction thingy is in the cockpit?"
"Maybe."
"Alright."
We head out the door and into the cockpit, looking around.

 

"The mortals I created with the power of the elements to protect the Earth?" Gaia says, confused at why the winged serpent would not know about guardians.


Mortius investigates the portal room, curious about exploring more of the reality.


Tenebrae takes four of the books on the first shelf, before heading over to a table to read them.

 

"Oh, apologies." I say, cutting the link.

 

There's an intact compass on the console, but it's kind of pointing in two different ways.
Maybe the planet doesn't exactly have a magnetic north...
Perhaps visiting a city may be a good place to get bearings?

"Never heard of Earth... What'sss going on here?"

There are four portals, each with labels a bit hard to make out aside from the realm names.
Entelp, Xyrnal, Asimuul, and Maralune.

In the garden, there are hundreds of varieties of flowers in sight from every angle, but a single black flower sits in a wide plot all its own in the center of the garden.

 

I approach the black flower.

 

"Hmm, well, I did come from another universe. I guess you don't have Earth here." Gaia says happily, relief in her voice.


With each name being of no meaning to Mortius, he picks a portal at random to go through.

 

Its stem is short and has four delicate looking petals that are so thin they're transparent.

"Another what?" The serpent asks, suspicious.

As he steps through the Asimuul portal, he finds himself in a small, grassy plain. It's very closely surrounded by forest on one side, desert on another, and a chasm separating the two to the right.

 

I try to see if there is any nameplate near it with the name of the flower.

 

No nameplate, but there's some kind of protective plastic box over it.
...like plastic's actually going to stop anyone.

 

"Um, well, ugh, how did Theodore explain it..." Gaia thinks for a bit, before a massive flower grows in her palm, "Imagine that you could take one petal off of this flower. If you took one of the petals, then that would create multiple versions of you on multiple different timelines where you took off a different petal. I come from another timeline where the choices that happened in it are very different."


Mortius decides to investigate the chasm, curious.

 

"Hmm... Ssso you are an alternate versssion of the goddessss Gaia?"

There are worn ruins carved into the sides, skeletons laying about traces of long-since dried blood.
Whatever this is, it's a sign that there is no order left on this world.

 

"I guess so! I'm not sure if I want to meet myself though, that would probably be kind of weird." Gaia says awkwardly.


Mortius floats down to the ruins, looking for any spirits or evidence of recent activity.

 

"Makesss sssenssse... Ssstill, it isss nice to meet you, missss Gaia." The serpent says. "My name is Mavisss, and I have lived here asss long asss I can remember."

The only recent activity he can detect evidence for is looting.

 

"Hi Mavis!" Gaia says happily, "Oh! Do you know what put these poor creatures together? They don't look very happy."

Gaia holds up one of the Chimera.


Mortius lets out a hollow sigh, flying out of the chasm and heading back to the portal, the realm not interesting him too much.
