Aye, so I've seen quite a lot of computer experts here, and I'll start by saying this: I am in no way, shape, or form a computer expert. All I know is advanced CSS and basic HTML and thats web stuff. If you didn't know I have a major work in progress now, which is a website that I won't advertise here because rules. All in all, my current laptop is OK, but I want to move to a desktop. Now I'm not looking for a supercomputer, I have some of the parts, not all, and I want to upgrade my intel graphics card to an Nvidia graphics card, which I cannot do because my intel card is installed onto my motherboard. Goodie! So here's what I have so far (list will be updated as soon as I crack open my PC to see what parts I can recycle):
-2TB hard drive (don't know the brand name)
-Full Intel Core I7 vPro motherboard w/ graphics card installed
    -Full casing and wiring
-Functional cooler (may need an upgrade)
    -Windows 8 OS
Anything I'm missing or good upgrades?

I'm guessing the sound and internet cards are installed into the motherboard?
Also a RAM upgrade might be nice depending on what you already have.

This page contains a bunch of helpful links for knowing the parts of a PC, chosing which parts you want and how to build the PC with those parts. The subreddit that page links from is also there if you have any more specific questions. Nobody knows your requirements better than yourself so learn about the different parts and such and experiment with different builds on this website.

First of all you are gonna need some RAM I would say a minimum of 8GB DDR 4 but would recommend 16GB of DDR 4. On the issue of a graphics card my personal choice as a balance between cost and power is the GTX 1070 which will set you back around £400 although you could get a GTX 1060 which will be cheaper but you do sacrifice some processing power for that. Last thing is that you may want to check your power supply to make sure it's beefy enough and you can tell what kind of PSU you need by checking the specs page of the graphics card on nvidia's website.

If you need any more advice just ask.

Get the GTX 1070 (Best Value for a graphics card and even the founders edition now cost $400, $50 cheaper than it was. And could be worth getting one), 16 GB DDR4, and PSU? I'm not exactly the best on choosing the PSU, but what I do know is that you shouldn't go forward for a cheap PSU (said from others from other sites). You could get like Corsair's CXM 550W 80+ Bronze.

    Also 2 question?
    • What CPU, Cooler, and Motherboard do you have?
    • Why not Windows 10? Is it because your CPU doesn't support Windows 10?
