Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

Crystal catches the spear, and puts down the other one gently.
"There doesn't seem much of a differenence in the weapon structure. Why's it better to have a non-elemental weapon?"
I ask Nilarq.

 

"Do you not remember me from when I went to fight Xlentia?" I ask, slightly concerned for Sapphire's memory.

 

"Oh." Elyra looks down, actually bothering to inspect her condition.

 

"Simply so you don't face any... ugly repercussions while learning. Against that frost spear, if I were to use a flame one, you'd end up freezing yourself solid." Nilarq says flatly.

"No, I know who you are Aj, it's just... it's been rough... one of your servants was tasked with helping me learn to be alive, but he's... well... I'm not sure. I just kinda woke up and he wasn't there."

Look back up.
It's nauseating; horrifying otherwise.
Your clothes are thoroughly soaked in blood, and you're pretty sure you can see your bone in several places...

 

"That's odd...I wonder what could've happened to him..." I ponder, leading Sapphire to the elevator, Stephanie following, "I need some food anyway, so you could probably get some yourself, or just wait for your organ transplant."

 

"Hm. Fair point."
I say, waiting for Kyle to lead us.

 

"I'm still kinda stuffed. He helped me eat practically a tableful of food..."

Kyle is just watching off to the side.

Nilarq seems to be waiting for Crystal to step inside a ring.
"If your friend wants to watch, get him inside too."

 

Crystal seems to have been looking at the spear, but draws his attention to the ring.
"Okay! C'mon, let's go!"
Crystal runs off into the ring, and I follow, watching.

 

Nilarq signals to a mage, and the ring forms a dome.
"Alright. First off, hold that with both hands. You can easily be disarmed if you don't."

 

Crystal hold it with his left hand below his right, but instead of holding it with his right, he just forms his right hand around it.

 

Nilarq pulls out another non-elemental spear.
"Spread your hands apart a bit. A spear is a rather balanced weapon; something between defense and offense. I'll let you decide what you want to learn first; defensive uses, or offensive uses?"

 

"Offensive!"
Crystal says, eagerly, spacing his left hand down he shaft more.

 

"Alright. First thing you need to know, you need to always remember that the pointy end is the only thing you should be using. Hitting someone with the blunt end or the shaft is stupid, and if you want to use blunt weapons, use a mace or warhammer. Got it? Try to land a blow on me. Don't worry about hurting me; these arenas are used for duels to the death. I'll be fine."

 

"I figured that one out."
Crystal says before charging, spear to his right, pointed forwards, expecting a dodge.

 

Elyra averts her eyes. "Uhm..." she furrows her brows, collecting herself.

 

Nilarq quickly throws the tip off to the side with a spinning block, practically flinging Crystal sideways with it.
"Basic charges get people killed, and not the right ones. If something has to get hit, make sure it's your weapon and not you."

"Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go gather some more herbs. I may not like how you treat me, but I dunno if I'd even put a serial killer through the pain you'd face when they wear off..." The man says, walking out of the room.

 

"I could probably go for that..." I say, heading into the elevator and turning the dials.

"I'm not hungry..." Stephanie says hollowly.

 

Crystal grounds himself, almost falling over, but hastily backs up out of reach.
"Okay."
He says, nodding, waiting for the next instruction.

 

"Nuh? Please no... I can't take any more..." Sapphire groans. "Though, I have one question... those shurikens don't look to be of shadow crafting. Did... did s-sister make them for you as a memento?"

"First off, unless you can take a hit, don't strike until you see an opening. That means step one is making an opening for yourself. This is where the blunt end comes in to play; if you can, hook that under anything you can manage on your foe's blade. Once you catch their blade you can force them to swing wide, leaving their body wide open for the end you want to strike with." Nilarq says, demonstrating by tapping Crystal's chest with his spear point after nearly disarming him.

 

Crystal jumps back just enough, attempting to do the same.

"Second."
I whisper under my breath.
