Sophie shrugs.
"There's clearly an exception."

 

"O-Or, he doesn't want you dead?" Lian says, hopeful.

 

"I'm not risking that anytime soon."

 

"Uhm...you might once the king recovers." Lian says nervously.

 

"He'll be forcing it. I'm not walking into his domain if I can avoid it."

 

"I'm s-sorry my king has done you so wrong, Miss Sophie." Lian says, sounding like he's taking the blame for himself.

 

"That's on him, not you."

 

"I-I know, but, I can't help but feel partially responsible after serving under him and living in his palace." Lian says sadly.

 

"Still not your fault at all. What else could you do? If you stood up, you'd be killed. Leave, and be in tough times."

 

"I wouldn't be killed, I'd just be fired..." Lian says sadly.

 

"That's still bad. Do what you need to do, and I'll do what I need to."

 

"I shall, Miss Sophie." Lian says obediently.

 

"Better yet, around me, find your personality again. You're no puppet."

 

"I am a servant though, Miss Sophie." Lian says, obedient.

 

"And you obey orders? A good servant is good at their job. A great servant brings that and more to the table."

 

"I'm no great servant, I was simply ordered to keep you alive," Lian says, "As was my order."

 

"If you're not great, then work on it for raises and crap."

 

"Y-Yes, Miss Sophie." Lian says, disheartened.

 

Sophie pauses.
"Are you happy where you are, or not? If not, try to make it better. If you are, I'm sorry, I have no business whipping you like that."

 

"N-No, you're my superior. I'm meant to follow your orders, and if you are displeased with me, I shouldn't rebel." Lian says, slightly pained.
