Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"Oh, well, other more powerful Shadows know how to live too." Lian says, his voice getting quieter at the end.

 

"I don't need much. If you're doubting yourself, though, then I may as well look for a replacement." Sophie says. "But, you'll be fine. The king kills practically everything out of line. You clearly are doing fine so far."

 

"The king doesn't kill any of his servants or workers...at least, I don't think he does. He mostly just fires them, since even the lower paying palace jobs pay out quite a lot." Lian says.

 

"Good."
I say softly, waiting for a sign that she's asleep.

 

"He intended to kill me, torture me, and the same with Emerald - and burn all the books in that library. I no longer trust him." Sophie says flatly.

There is none, but there's no signs of movement either.

 

"Wasn't that to restore power to the elites, though?" Lian asks.

 

"They were suppressing Xlentia as well - unaware they were suppressing the guardians."

 

"Oh. Well, the king didn't kill you or Emerald, or burn the library, did he?" Lian asks, trying to lighten the mood.

 

"Because Milla almost died in my stead and Emerald saw through his ruse of trying to give her a book with runes that would weaken her." Sophie says, shaken.

 

"Wow..." Lian says, shocked.

 

"Do not let it shake your confidence in him. Everyone has one side shown to friends and another to foes." Sophie reassures. "I simply do not wish to take my chances."

 

"Well, you certainly don't want to be an enemy of the king, heh." Lian says awkwardly.

 

"I certainly wanted a choice in the matter." Sophie grunts.
She pauses.
"We're here. Empower me; it's still middle of the day."

 

Lian empowers Sophie, and she feels a little bit stronger, her breathing taken care of both by the autobreather and Lian.

 

Sophie soon steps through a portal and into a desert, her armor and mask serving as a cloak and cover from the sand.
The serpentine construct erupts from the sand under Sophie, swiftly carrying her across the desert.
"Holding your own, Lian?" She thinks.

 

"I'm doing fine, Com- I mean, Sophie." Lian thinks back.

 

Sophie soon jumps off the serpent, entering a hidden cavern with various treasures.
"Milla said she'd be back in a few minutes..."

 

"Alright." Lian says, understanding.

 

After waiting around, Milla comes back, wearing various golden jewelry items.
"Heh... hey ma."
"What was it now, Milla?"
"Recon the underworld."
"For that? What was the catch?"
"Dispose of a despot. I don't question, I follow the money."

 

Lian keeps quiet, listening through Sophie's ears.
