Void Rift (rp) - Intermission

"S-sure..." She utters.


"You will first be brought to your bunks, given a mobility ring so you don't take hours to get to the library, and a stamp allowing you to check out books at your leisure; maximum three, just so I can keep track of books that aren't in need of reproduction." Emerald says, Rineth landing near her.
"Board the Voidwalker and we'll get moving."

 

The Shadow scientist disappears, and Sapphire feels a lot stronger, as well as a lot more intelligent. Sapphire seems to remember breathing, at least, how the Shadow scientist knows it. The autobreather is turned off, and Sapphire immediately starts breathing by herself with assistance from the Shadow.


The group climbs aboard Rineth, some quite confused by the fact they're riding on top of him.

 

"This... is so weird..." Sapphire moans.


Rineth treks over the battlefield, grunting.
"Geez, they made a mess..."

 

"Take it easy, we can go at your own pace. Just say when you think you're ready to breathe without help." The scientist says kindly.


A few Shadow stones lie around the battlefield, it may be best for Rineth to avoid crushing them and killing any Shadows.

"This is a piece of history right here." One of the Shadows in the group comments, looking around, curious.

 

"Quite hypocritically, I just sense it." I say, "But perhaps you are right."

 

"I-I... can see color... it's so weird..."


Rineth doesn't seem to notice. There are no shadow corpses outside of Xlentia's chambers.
"History... heh... something like that."

"We'll find out, won't we?"

 

"Are you colourblind? We could take you to the medical ward for an operation to restore the ability to see colour if you liked." Joanne asks.


The group looks around Xlentia's palace as they ride, curious about their new workplace.

 

"I can see now..." Sapphire says, entranced.


It's massive, stories-tall statues lining the hallway amidst the corpses.
"Don't try to travel without either a Voidwalker or a movement ring." Rineth says.

 

"You...couldn't see before?" The scientist asks, as if already planning out an operation for Sapphire.


"Why not?" An air guardian asks, before yawning.

 

"Monochromatic only."


"It's fifty miles from the bunks to the library." Rineth says bluntly.

 

"Would you like an operation so you can see colour?" Joanne asks.

Sapphire, without realising, seems to have made progress toward getting used to breathing as the Shadow scientist seems to have loosened his control over time.


"Wow...that's a long way." The air guardian comments, surprised.

 

"I can see color now..."


"Halls are just over a mile wide. Mistress has to get around, and she's utterly massive." Rineth chuckles, clearly enjoying his walk.

 

"I believe that's just Creus, from your empowerment. Creus, try removing her ability to see through your eyes." Joanne asks.

Creus, presumably the Shadow, stops letting Sapphire see through his eyes.


"Isn't she dead now?" An earth guardian asks.

 

"I can still see just fine."


"If she were dead, your queen would be in far worse than critical condition." Rineth says bluntly. "Her brother is far less flashy, keeps things short, and rarely gives any warning until he's ready to smite you a one way ticket to Oblivion."

 

"That's quite amazing. How's your breathing coming along?" Joanne asks, surprised. The second scientist seems pleasantly surprised too.


"I heard a rumour her majesty got blasted straight through the chest!" A Shadow says, causing commotion amongst the group.

 

"What?!"
I exclaim, half-question, half-trying to convince myself otherwise.

I start running and looking through the piles of gold that look more distorted, like they've recently been moved, or squashed.

 

"It's still weird. It's so cold..."


"You think that was a serious wound? It was mitigated - I'm sure she'll be fine. My only hope is that the other preservers will join our cause - if they even are still alive..." Rineth trails off, stopping.
"I hope you don't mind one shared bunk room. The better ones were destroyed by your king and his robot."

There's a blood-soaked flat pile which is... pretty telling.

 

"You'll get used to it." Joanne chuckles.

Creus continues loosening his effect on Sapphire, teaching her to breathe.


"I'm fine with sharing." A fire guardian says. Most of the other group members seem fine with sharing too.

 

"It's... odd... after being a puppet for so long... life is like an ancient friend..."
Sapphire seems to be able to faintly breathe on her own.


"You'll have to be, or you'll have to put in a little work on reconstruction tonight. Also, any Air guardians need to group up, else the atmosphere will weaken you. Again, pardon the... everything." Rineth says, unfolding his wing into a ramp.

 

I fall to my knees, releasing air.
"God damnit."
I say, more to myself than anyone else.

At this time, Crystal faints, and a white glow emerges from him. This glow seems to constantly change shape and color, as it glides around the room.
